You might as well delete those 2 pictures of the shaft at the insert. They're useless. Is that square object in the bottom of the but a metal lag bolt head or a square piece of wood in a round hole. In either case it's probably not original unless it's an imported cue. I have seen a square piece of wood like that holding in a piece of rebar as a weight in a cheap import many years ago. That was in an old National imported from Taiwan. Does it rattle when you hit a ball or shake it?
i just looked at the pics myself. sorry they are so blurry. will try to post some better ones. it looks to be a square nut in the butt. i scratched it with a knife and it seems to be brass. the nut is also the same color as the pin in the forearm which appears to be brass. i have been using it as a break stick and it breaks fantastic. actually i break better with it than anything i ever used before, but i think that is attributed mostly to the tipless ferrule on one of the shafts that came with it. no rattles at all and it is straight as an arrow together or apart with either shaft.
