And on topic. A sneaky pete cue to me is a plain, four point, full splice, all wood cue with idealy no collar or decorations. A joint collar on the shaft and maybe a small decorative ring on the butt still qualifies, though isn't needed. More than that, like what Josey or Mark Bear does isn't really a sneaky pete in my mind anymore. A plain Jane cue is one to me is one with one type of wood, maybe some small inlays in the butt sleeve, and a wrap. Simple rings are ok. Fancy rings like in a prewit make it more of a merry widow type cue , which is just a step up imho. Also think cues made from valley or duffern house cues are sneaky petes except for maybe a duffern ebony high run.

I really thought the cubs would lose a 100 games this year, but they are going to sneak in just under that. Hope they drop Dusty next year, time for some kind of a change and that is one that makes sense. Going to need some pitching next year, especially in the bullpen. As always..waiting for next year.
And I was always told a merry widow was a plain cue, no points, with inlays in the butt sleeve. Almost think plain jane and merry widow are interchangeable, though a merry widow should be a bit fancier.

Once upon a time in America, when cues and life were much more simple,
there was no such thing as a Sneaky or Hustler and
what is now refered to as a Plain Jane, was called a 'Merry Widow' style cue. It meant a cue with no points. The same term had been
used for a 'ladies undergarment'. I never knew if there
was suposed to be any connection between the two usages.
IMHO, by the time the PJ designation became popular, there were few
players still living, who were old enough to remember the MW tag

That's nonsense. If anything the internet facilitates it. Now you can check the boards to find out where the action is. You can send emails and text messages to get a line on a town before you hit it.
My friend and I made few nice scores by checking the boards and poolrooms.com for the places to play.
And with low plane fares you could BE in Alaska the next day with the locals none the wiser. While they think you're still on the road in Florida you can be setting them up on the tundra.
The hustler still lives on. He is a chameleon that adapts to the changes and keeps snapping off the insects who come in too close.

I travel for a living for over 150 days a year (50+ flights) all over the US and have been in so many poolrooms I couldn't try to keep track of them all. "Road Playing" is about 1/10th of what it was even just back in the 70's & 80's.
