cue length

Is there an equation to figure the best length of cue given the player's height and arm length? I've read some different articles about it but nothing really concrete.

I can't remember who it is and I currently can't find it searching through the forums, but there is a cuemaker that has a "formula" on his website to calculate cue length relative to height. Maybe someone else can recall who has this info on their website.

The reason I aked is that I had a customer that wanted a cue made for his neice. She's 8 years old and that got me thinking about what length to make it and how to calculate it.

Here is what I did for my Grandson when he was 8 years old:

When my Eight Year Old Grandson Jordan looked up at me and said “Grandpa will you make me a pool cue” I said you just go on the internet to my web site and pick out one that you like.

I thought about it some and decided that a regulation size cue was just too long for him that I needed to do something so that he could use the cue at his current size and yet still use it when he got older. I made a detachable butt sleeve that he can put on when he is about 12 years old.

This application would work for those who play pool in a location that the walls are too close to the pool table. We can apply this to just about any cue we make.

Good Cuemaking,

Good idea. I've made extension that attach like that and they work out well. I might have to try that. Thanks. Ryan

Didn't the old timers go to the bottom of your chin when looking straight ahead? or was it the bottom of your nose when blowing it?

Since we are too young to remember, let's ask Arnot. :D

I don't think any standard will work. I know shorter players that want longer cues and I know taller players that want normal length cues. How a player stands has a lot to do with how far back his hand goes on the handle. Unless all players go to the same pool school and follow all mechanics exactly like the teacher tells them, there will be no way of reaching good conclusion.
