There seems to be an endless array of cue makers today. Is there a site that list all of the current cue makers? Is there a forum that accurately rates their quality and playability?

Playability is really subjective. Some peoples' standards for quality are not as stringent than others.

The best thing to do is to figure out what you like best in a cue that plays well for you now, or to try some others out....once you narrow down exactly what you are looking for, then people can guide you in the right direction, with regards to makers.

I've played with a cue by all of these guys:
Jacoby http://www.jacobycustomcues.com/
Espiritu http://www.espiritucues.com/home
Richard Black http://www.blackcues.com/
Scruggs http://www.timscruggs.com/
Olivier http://www.jocues.com/
Carolina Custom Cues http://www.carolinacues.com/

I've stuck with the original Jacoby I first got, a no frills sp. It hits awesome for me, though not terribly stiff. I can honestly recommend all of them. As long as you're not getting raked over the coals on the price, you'll be happy. Carolina and Espiritu had the stiffest cue hit, just in case you're wondering. I'd love to shoot and a southwest or a szamboti, and eagerly a Lomax. Lomax only gets great reviews, but I've never used on of his, so I can't comment.

I generally will go by roughly half the retail value if the cue is used and shows any sign of being used at all. More damage and that price starts to drop off a bit more, any damage that noticeably effects the look is a bit more sever, and if there's a hop in the cue, the floor is the limit. The retail values can sometimes be rather bloated, so half of the retail is a decent starting guide in my experience, though all upper-end cues can retain high value and close to original cost if not more than.

Playability, Hit, Feel are like Rating the Best Mexican Restaurant in any given city. It come down to the person doing the rating.

It come down to personal preference, or personal taste. I honestly think Meucci's are pure CRAP, and hit Soft, like Over Cooked Pasta would hit.

Another forum member would say I am CRAZY, and there is NOTHING BETTER than a Meucci.

Who is right, who is wrong. NO ONE it is a personal preference. BTW IMHO there are NO BAD CUES, just some cues I like better. KING JAMES REMPE played with a Meucci's for years, and won it all. Allison Fisher plays with a CUE-TECH.
