Does it damage your cue if you leave it out over night on the pool table?Or should I break it down and leave it on the table?Or just put it away in the case?I guess I have a habit of leaving it out.PLEASE HELP! THANK'S

Laying flat the cue is evenly supported which is good however changes in temperature affect the cue also and it is a fact that slate is always 11 degs. colder than the ambient air surrounding it.

That would seem to contradict the Second Law of Thermodynamics:p

Of course, but the thermal mass of the slate will be cooler then the cue not to mention the cool contact will be only on one side of the cue and you could even have some condensation happen. There is also a time frame involved. Over a certain amount of time it should all equal out but not really. The environment is always changing, the attempt to equal out is an ongoing and changing proses. You are also dealing with unlike materials, slate and wood and different moisture contents. Things don't remain the same long enough for equalizing happen except in theory and as the wood tries to equalize it may also physically change. Either way, not good.

I've left my SW cue on my table for the past 3 years every night and there isn't the slightest of damage.

A straight taper cue like a snooker cue, seems to be ok when laid down.
However, most modern cues which have varing tapers and shapes, I would not leave laying on a table. They are best stored vertically.

Your room may be a controlled environment. It is the rapid changes that make the difference. In say Florida if you air condition your room where the pool table is and then at night turn it off such as with just a window unit rather then central air. The humidity and temp can change from 40% to 80% and 74 degrees to 90 degrees in just a few hours. I would also be concerned as to whether the cue is actually laying flat. Most cues are not a straight wedge but a compound taper.
