I don't think a cue ball knows how big the cue's butt diameter is. It only knows where the tip lands on the cue ball. The further out the more spin is applied.Michael Webb said:Personal preference, thinner butts make it easier to spin the ball.

A bigger diameter butt could mean a heavier cue but that is not necessarily true because of different densities of wood.
In my opinion the main consideration is the individual player's preference and comfort. If you like a thinner or thicker butt then that is what you should get.

Also, there is no such thing as standard size handle.
Cues come in different tapers.
Some have one taper from joint to the bottom.
Some have two to three tapers.
My preference is a thick forearm ( more conical ) and a straighter handle.
A thicker handle or maybe a forward-balanced cue would help, perhaps.icem3n said:I play with loose grip on certain shot especially those that you just want to drop. On a long shot i noticed that with a slight movement in the handle, you will change the intended path of the cue ball. I was just thinking maybe a slightly thicker butt would elimate any movement. I saw two Philippine player using rubber that roll over the handle of the cue back in 1997. Could this be reason that they trying to do, eliminating unwanted movement?
