Cue Price/Quality threshold... Aesthetics?

I too agree that expensive custom cues don't play any better than a decent cheap production cue. For some reason, I tend to play my best pool with a Meucci or Pechauer. Having that been said, I have several 30–50-year-old expensive custom cues and everything is absolutely dead straight. I've noticed cheaper / production cues tend to warp more often than custom cues from top makers. I'm not sure if that's worth all the extra money though.

if it makes you happy its worth what you paid for it

That CueTec TruWood - Wrapped/ Leopard wood with the Cynergy shaft has everything you could ever ask for in a cue for under $900. A beautifully constructed, nice looking cue with all of the newer/higher end construction, components, and features. I really want one but they are always out of stock.

I think there is something to properly and long aged wood when it comes to stability possibly. That is something you can get with a nice custom cue and a builder who has wood stores that they can keep around for a long time. That doesn't necessarily mean it'll play better though. Especially in the modern era with carbon fiber shafts.

When it comes to shafts, I do think good aged wood can be a little better, or at least more stable. But performance wise, I think a modern carbon shaft is hard to beat. So once you're spending enough to get a good carbon shaft on a production cue, I think you've reached peak playability.

I think when it comes to cue butts, where the large majority of the money is spent on a custom cue, there is really no performance benefit to be had. It's all aesthetics.

Doesn't stop me from liking and wanting nice looking cues though :) I'll spend the money for aesthetics. I will say I have 2 cues from Bob Runde with a total of 5 shafts between them and every single one is absolutely dead straight 8+ years after they were made.
