Hey Guys!

I got introduced to a guy yesterday that wants a new cue – with a couple of “twists”.

He’s currently playing with a high dollar Schon (well, he says it was a $2000 cue that Schon sold him for $1200 – both are high dollar in my book!) He wants points and inlays and I’m not doing those yet – someday maybe, though there’s a niche for cues without them. Anyway, I think the cue he wants is outside my abilities right now.

His playing shaft is 31 inches but the butt is “only” 29 inches. Here’s the twist: He he wants a 32-33” butt! He’s fairly tall, though I wouldn’t put him over 6’2” and says he has extra long arms. He apparently holds the cue on the end of the butt, which he knows is wrong and would like to get it right. His current cue has a leather wrap, so simply building an extension just would never feel right He would like a leather wrap on his new cue.

I won't see him again until Sunday, but if you’re interested I can give him your contact info and you two can work towards a deal.

Let me know via PM.

Maybe you should reconsider how you would build the extension. Try making an extension that goes between the shaft and butt. Then he can see if he really likes a cue that long. I have built several of these for players in GA and they seem to like them, so it might be a good permanent fix for him. Or at least it would be a good stepping stone to a custom cue.

There is a guy in my town that has an extension that goes between his shaft and butt. First time I had seen it. My only question is how does that apply to the rule of not breaking down your cue during a match?

Well, in this case, it would be more or less permanent - not broken down during a match.

Chris,

As always a great idea!!

I'll discuss it with him.

Don't forget to take into consideration that MOST cases will not have the room to accommodate a 33" butt. At least per my experience. Granted i have owned many different cases from custom-mass produced, I am by no means educated enough....Just my 2 cents...

You are correct and the customer knew that. That is why the mid-cue extension is such a good idea! Not only saves him buying a whole cue and a custom case, he continues to play with the same butt and shaft. Winner winner, chicken dinner!

I will see him Sunday and see what he thinks of that idea.
