Just wondering if anybody remembers the hole in the wall joint at Grand River & 8 Mile Rd. Across the parking lot from the old Merchandise Mart (now Kitts Tools). An old guy (Canada Bill) and his wife owned the place. They would sometimes keep it open all night on a Friday or Saturday. Cornbread Red and Miami would stop in sometimes to check the action. They had a couple of snooker tables. The question is, if anybody can remember, was any of the tables a 6x12? I've got a mild controversy with an old friend. A difference of memory. Thanks.

Bob Horn was a regular there...played pretty sporty snooker.
....only 5x10 snooker tables as I recall.

I don't think I was ever in that room but I sure remember Bob Horn. He pretty much taught me how to play Snooker the right way. He would bet cheap and teach me while he played me. I would get up 6 or 7 games and then, about an hour before he had to leave he would get serious. He would cock his head in that odd way that he did and not miss a ball until he won the 6 or 7 games back.

He would never take my money, for some strange reason. He'd get even and leave. He could've robbed me blind but instead he took the time to teach me the ins & outs of the game. I've always respected Bob for the time he gave me and the knowledge too:).

Memory is a funny thing.................IIRC.
I played in an old-school room at 7 & Beech back in the early 60s.
Grew-up in Redford, graduated from their illustrious high school.
But then you know that. Give me a call when you get a minute.

They had a 6x12, I'm sure. I even know who has it currently and it could be for sale. Just talked to him about it last week, it's in the flint area. It dates to early 1900's and is still in great shape. Hope this helps.

Good for Bob....I always got along with him.
...but we gambled...I backed a good snooker player against him.....
....took him 3 days to get Bob's $600.

My man was a little naive....Bob's friend Peter offered him a prop....
....my man came to me for the stakes...I said "Uh uh."......
...I called across the room to Peter "Peter, did you ever ride with the
Dalton brothers?"
Peter blushed like a little girl...I guess he was naive also. :)

Didn't Larry Wathen (Bogarts Billiards) own that poolroom later on? I think he had another one out that way.

I remember a room on 6 mile & Farmington Road. A little place but they had tournaments there.

I don't think Larry ever had a piece of that room. After many years,Bill's son took it over and it went away shortly thereafter. A guy named Bruce opened a room almost across the street in Livonia. Behind the Murray's Auto store. Larry may have been a part of that room. Larry had a big place on Plymouth in Livonia, closed after some years, opened a small place on Telegraph just south of Schoolcraft but didn't last more than about a year there. Thanks for the input.
