Cue Reccomendation

Hi all,

I am a fairly new player (6 months or so). I have recently broken the shaft on my crappy McDermott lucky brand $60 cue and am looking to upgrade to something nicer as my game improves.

While, I understand that the best way to find the right cue is to test them out, I am a college student in upstate New York and there is no billiard shop in the local area, so I am forced to buy online.

So, if anyone can provide me with a recommendation on a cue between $100-$250 it would be greatly appreciated. In addition, if anyone has an old cue that they would be willing to give me a fair price on I would also be willing to deal.

Thank You!

This is a hard one as to.... how much of quality can you get for your money's worth...
My advice is to go with an R360 shafted cue by Cuetec or a Lucasi in that price range if it has to be new.

But the best performance advice, I think, would be to keep your current MCD Lucky cue, even if it is a lower end cue with no real inlays and stuff, but to equip it with a predator 314² shaft (at seyberts.com they have all sizes). This way you'll probably end up with a combination in your hands that will surpass the new cue options performance-wise.

not a bad idea, but how will I be able to find a shaft that will fit the joint as my current shaft did not even have a metal joint, simply threaded wood, lol.

Most McDermott cues have this joint, its called 3/8 x 10. Its actually extremely popular with custom cue makers. Just order a predator shaft with the 3/8 x 10 thread, it should fit.

Everyone has been ranting about the players hxt cues that there great buy one of those there only 100-140 new good luck hope u find something

PM sent. Look forward to hearing from you.

Those Viper cues that you find at Sports Academy are not bad playing cues. Most of the hype over cues is just that, hype. A lot of guys here on AZ make their money selling cues, so they have a product to sell and they push their product as the best. Nothing wrong with that, but if you can play, you can play with a Viper or an Action Cue and most probably at the same level as you would play with a $500 custom cue. I have owned custom cues, production cues, and junk label production cues. They will all hit a little different, and one's preference is always subjective. Just recognize a true maple shaft with a pro taper and a good quality leather tip (on 2 piece cues). That is really all you need to play very strong in any pool game. If you don't believe me, watch some of the old timers run straight pool on Youtube. They didn't know what a low-deflection shaft was, and they certainly didn't need a $50 layered leather tip. It is just marketing and commercialism, but I admit it is fun to try them all out.
