I have a billiards cue of EsBee. I gave it to a very good friend of mine who is our local cue maker/repairer. He refinished the half butt (handle and butt area) but he left the forearm due to the fact it is stained maple and it has the signature. He can't find the way to refinsh this part and keep the signature and not "hurting" the stain part. Any ideas?

i would send it to someone who really knows what they are doing. if it was maple it would be ok bc you could cover that signature and clean everything else up then refinish. with a stain i dont think you can take it down to bare wood without color variation

how bad it the current finish? also what type it it?

my advice figue that out. clean the surface/ ruff it up and reshoot . providing there are no dings where wood is exposed. depending on the type of finish you might be able to get away with this. scot at proficient could prob do it without a problem

odds are he will need too see the cue first tho

Absolutely

I agree with Dave you need professional help, someone who is a full time cuesmith & knows his business.
