Hello all

I've got a plain jane cue from a reputable cuemaker here ....it's really a plainjane...there is no ring work and really plain cue...a gorgeus bubinga wood with brown/white irish linen wrap....now, this cue is very good and i already fell in love with this cue, but i want to add some ring work, change the buttcap with a good looking one maybe put some inlay and put an elephant ear wrap. Unfortunately, the cuemaker can not have a time to do that fast....so, i have to ask another cuemaker to do that...my question is, if i ask another cuemaker to do the work. Is it possible to ruin the playability of this cue :):)

thanks for the opinon anyway

I'm not a cuemaker but I know a few.
Why don't you have the same reputable cuemaker build a similar but fancier cue, per your design?
Keep the plain jane just in case the new cue makes your game suck...:)

his fancy cue is very expensive....right now i can not afford it....i can aford his fancy cue if i already sell some cue that i've got (that's my plan), but still he already got a lot of work (job)...i don't know how long exactly i have to wait for his work.

I keep seeing the same silly question. If you want your cue rewrapped or have a wrap added to your cue, that's something that can be done without a lot of drama. What you're asking is to strip and disassemble your cue to add stuff to it that would and should have been included in the build but wasn't, then refinish your cue for a price that is still less than what you want to pay, when it would be easier (and therefore cheaper) to build it from scratch.

Quality work is worth waiting for.
A lack of patience will only invite dissatisfaction.
Respect to the cue-maker is conveyed by telling him you will wait.
He will then have your best interest and his best efforts at heart.
Order another cue and play the one you have. Still, be prepared to wait.

Respectfully, KJ

don't get me wrong sir.....i fully respect with the cuemaker...he is a good gentleman...But as i mention...he is a very busy cuemaker...my problem is 2..
1. I can not afford his price right now (not until i sell some cue i've got)
2. If i already sell some cue and finally can meet his price.....i even don't know how long do i have to wait...

so, i wonder...what if i send my P/j to another cuemaker that also got same reputation as he is and ask him to put a leather wrap..change the butt cap with a good looking one....change the joint collar and put some gorgeus ring work and etc as long as this cue hit the same....now the problem is i'm not cue specialist...i know that change the wrap won't affect the playability of the cue..(anybody cue repairman can do it)..but what about change the joint collar...change the butt cap and put a little inlay in butt...will it change the playability of the cue? that's my simple question

Did you read this post

Yes, I did. He wants a new wrap. He wants the butt cap removed and replaced with something else. He wants the joint collar removed and replaced with something else. He wants ring work installed. The original post did not say where ringwork was to be installed. If it was above/below the wrap, that would require dismantling the cue at the A joint and removing the butt sleeve. On top of that, he wants additional inlay work. That would require a refinish. I'd never do all that for the same price as a new cue. What he's asking is MORE work than building him what he wants from scratch.

"will it change the playability of the cue? that's my simple question."

Changing the joint collar has the ability to alter the 'hit' of the cue.
That's not necessarily a bad thing.
Without knowing what you have now and what you would be changing it to,
it's difficult to say how it would change the hit (if at all).
I doubt it would change the playability.

As to the wrap install, if the cue currently has no wrap, installing a wrap
will slightly dampen the vibration that your grip-hand receives when striking the ball.
Since your cue already has a linen wrap, the only thing that will change when you
have an elephant ear wrap installed is the texture of what you feel when you hold the cue.

None of the other modifications that you have requested will alter the hit
or playability of the cue.
