Cue replacement

I have been looking at a couple different cues lately as I would like to replace my original cue from the 70's, and would also like to get a Break/Jump cue.
I will probably purchase a cheaper McDermott to use as a backup/second cue that I can use for everyday play and keep my Meucci for tournaments and league if I decide to start playing league again.
I am still considering my options for a Break/Jump cue.

I use a Schmelke bacote modified M20 for my break cue. The butt is a solid piece of bacote and I have a Samsara break tip installed on it. I really like it for a breaker (and so do others), especially the price I paid for it.

Here is what I would recommend:
  • Get a similar Schmelke setup (similar to what I mentioned above) for breaking. If you need a jump / break, Schmelke sells a butt already setup for this or you can have them modify the M20 or similar.
  • I practice with my primary player so I know how it will perform when I am playing an important match. I would get a second shaft for your Meucci with the same model and specs as your original shaft. Make sure the taper, diameter and everything matches. Also, put the same tip on both. This way you have a practice / backup shaft and a primary shaft for your main player Meucci.
  • If you don't already have one, get a nice 2x4 or 3x5 Instroke Premier basic case for just over $200 to carry the above setup. They are my favorite cases for look, layout, quality and durability.
Getting a McDermott cue for practice would not be your best option, I think...

Yes, I think you are correct and I will probably just get a second shaft for my Meucci.
As far as the Schmelke, it is one that I have been seriously considering for a break/jump cue. :)

Actually, I take back my closing statement if you are thinking of getting a Schmelke for break / jump. It has a 3/8x10 pin, so do most McDermotts. And some Meucci cues had them also. It is nice to have your entire bag the same pin (I have 3 butts and 6 shafts, +1 on order, all are 3/8x10 swap-able)...

I like that idea.

I still have my 70's Joss and the Fellini it came in. I lost track of how many shafts I have for it. Six? Seven?

I had only the two original shafts for it a few years ago, then went on a mission to get more. I ended up with Stroud, Scruggs, and Joss shafts, with matching rings. I still love playing with the cue even though I suck. LOL!

If you ever lose your mind and decide to sell that package, please put me on the list!!😉
