Cuemakers,

What do you consider as acceptable regarding pool cue shafts
If i put the shaft on the table what is the largest gap i should
have? .005 .010 .015 .032 .05 .062 ?
just trying to get a feel for what is accepatble and what is not.

Thank-you
Mark

Pool tables are for playing pool on, not for measuring warpedness,
real or otherwise.

pick the shaft up off the table.
Sight down the length, like a rifle<somewhat easier when on the butt>
any 'bend' in the shaft is unacept... - in a new shaft.

If a shaft is pro-tapered it will have daylight under the shaft. Only Cone or Carom tapered shafts will have no daylight under the shaft. If you can see the daylight varying when you roll the shaft, that can mean the shaft is warped or it can mean the joint pin or insert is in the cue slightly off center. This causes more materail to be removed from one side of the shaft at the joint when matching the shaft to the butt and causes it to be off to the front part of the shaft. This causes a perfectly straight turned shaft to look like it has a wobble when rolling on the table. The sighting down the shaft as suggested above is a better test to show how the shaft will play.
