I'm thinking, Winamac, IN., would be the perfect spot to hold the event. ;)

I think they should have it in Park City, Utah again.:)

No thanks I couldn't breath so well there and the bars lacked some alcohol in their drinks.

Bigfork, Montana --- reasons

Elevation is about 3,000 feet for JimBo (better than the 7,000 or is it 9,000 ft in Park City) - besides the scenery in Bigfork makes Park City look sad (I've been in both places) -- and there are probably more millionaires (quiet) in Bigfork - you can do the mountain or water thing (Bigfork sits on the largest fresh water lake west of the Mississippi and right on the side of the mountains) or golf - sort of like Reno scenery but clean.

And for Jimbo's second reason - the 2nd largest sport in Montana behind hunting is lifting your arm at the bar - and those old cowboys don't go for sissy drinks - no sir.

Yeah the drinks here suck. The current governor is actually talking about changing the alcohol laws so you can actually get a mixed drink at bar not a private club. It is really hurting tourism here.

As for the elevation problem you East Coasters need to toughen up.:)

Are you referring to the one at the Ritz? If so, one would have needed
to carry a heavy duty check book with them. The cues were definitely not cheap. From what I understand, a couple were not even for sale. They were there just for the glitz & glamour.

You make reference to custom cues. If they are made for a show, they would be "spec" cues, not custom.

Not trying to rain on your parade, but putting a show together is a major undertaking. Obviously there is a cost to the vendors also. That cost naturally will be passed on to the buyers. For the vendors, I think it is a huge gamble at best. For the person that puts it all together, it is an even larger gamble.

Chris has a valid point also. Many of the makers today are one or two man shops. In the time it takes to get ready for the show, travel, set up, do the show, & return home, a maker could have finished a lot of work on cues that he/she has a confirmed sale for. I have never even considered doing a show myself. I just cannot see the ROI for the moey invested (travel, hotel, booth, on the road expenses, not to mention the time lost while away from the shop).

But maybe you have an idea to offset these obstacles. Care to expound some on how you would set it all up?

For the most part I do stay at home. But I will be at the Hopkins Expo in March in Valley Forge, PA, along with a ton of other quality cuemakers. If you want to see a lot of cues at all kinds of price ranges get on up there and play one of the tournaments and enjoy some time off.

easy

OK, guys, it's easy to sit back and say we need this or that. That is the easy part.
I hosted the first ever cue show in Houston. I was at that time vice-president of the ACA. Stroud was president.
The hotel was close to Hobby airport, and many pool rooms.
I had to rent the ball rooms, have the tables and drapes set just right, and the list goes on and on. Lots of phone calls, and much more leg work.
Stroud took credit for it, but did nothing...
Myself, Jim Buss, and Richard Black made the draw for booths for the show.
At that show, there was over $250,000.00 worth of cues sold, in one day. That was huge for those days. No one ever thought we would do that much business.
When they have these stand alone shows, [ NORTH, SOUTH, EAST OR WEST], it's just that a SHOW, and kinda bragging rights for the collectors to SHOW off what they have, and also see some new stuff. Not many cues are sold or traded at these types of shows.

To make it a success, you need another draw as in a POOL TOURNAMENT.
It's like Chris said, Go to the Hoppkins show where cues will be sold from 30bucks up to the sky. You get to see and meet many more cuemakers on a personal level, and also see some jamb-up pool. About 20,000 folks come through the doors in 4 days of none stop pool action.
If you still want a stand alone cue show, call me and I'll help you out.

Yep, have an open invitation to several cuemakers. Would be great to have 4-5 c/m out on my deck with the above - fantastic conversations without the stress of a show - had to scare off several deer last night, they are eating off the hay bales I am feeding the cows. Native American neighbor has a new deer hanging every week or so since end of first of November.
