cue stick storage

Does anyone know if storing a two piece cue in a standing rack tend to warp the shaft? The rack I have is 58" high and the end of the cue stick is about 1" higher than the top section of the rack. Should I disassembe the cue or is it ok to leave it in the rack? Thanks.

The more vertical the rack has the cue the better. I still take mine apart and put it in the case.

Yes it most certainly will warp. Never store a cue free standing up, not even if it stands as straight as can be!

Store it snug but not pressing so that BOTH shaft and butt are supported throughout their length. A good way, imo, would be to store FLAT in a well padded soft case, like a Silver Fox. Good idea to rotate them every so often as well.

Cues in wall racks, or even floor racks, for that matter, generally do not fair well when fully assembled. The reason is, the cue still depends on the top portion of the rack to lean on...over time, it can cause warping, particularly in the shaft. Look at all those barsticks that have wobbles in the shaft area from wall rack storage.

The reason for this, and another reason NOT to store a cue, even disassembled, flat, is because gravity works! The force of gravity pulls on the one side of the shaft that is leaning against the wall rack, or stored flat, pulls down on one side of the butt and shaft. Over time, this can cause warpage.

Cues should always be stored, disassembled, in an upright position...whether that be in a display case or in a quality cue case, in a humidity controlled room.
