Wondering what the opinion currently is on the best sub 200 break cue. Thinking of a j&j. My break has sucked so bad lately I've got to try something different. Only cue I can get a good consistent break with is a joss with a 13 mm shaft and I hate dinging it up as its a old cue.

Can't afford even 200 right now, but thought I'd get opinions.

yep, try the j&j with a phenolic tip Joe, we have a player in town who posts here too, who just loves his. he breaks pretty well with it too! he bought his from Chrisonline a while ago. I know sooner or later when I get things straight, I'm gonna buy one myself...I have NO worries about buying from my bud, Chris!

honestly, i have broke with both models.. i like the white ferrule version better.. the one with the one piece tip and ferrule seem to give me more action on the cue after it hit the rack...

with that said.. i think they are the best bang for the buck... and also that they are no longer going to be making the 1 piece tip/ferruled ones anymore and will only be selling what they have left in stock....

i guess this is all because Mike Gulyassi finanly got them to apply the patend on the design....

also.. i have 1 left with the 1 piece tip and ferrule combo and about 10 or so left of the white ferrule/phenolic cues left...

chris

Duke--> thanx for the kind words.. its always appreciated! :)

Yo cubby,

For less than $100, J&J is worth the money if you like phenolic tip.

If you rather have hard leather tip and spend a bit more dough, contact Mystic Cue Fan and he will hook you up with purpleheart shaft sneaky pete by a custom cue maker.

I'm breaking with purpleheart shaft with hard layered water buffalo tip and am quite happy with it.

Phenolic tips are great for busting up the rack but, in my opinion, it's harder to control the whitey.

I have a 4 point sledgehammer. I would take 200 for it shipped. Great shape. Let me know if you're interested.

For your break to be sucking so badly I would suggest trying to figure out the best technique, I used to have a good break bu was inconsistent, but I read an article on bustamante's break (google search), keep left arm steady and have the bridge hand smooth and little bit loose hit, (practice a few times before breaking) ,and for all intensive purposes keep contact on the ball throughout the entire follow through, as you may already know you can control how much follow through you have be either starting from a low to high point follow through, or the midpoint it, but I can;t stress this enough ty to keep contact on the cue ball for as long as possible. It truely helped, I can break well with a house cue now. Its all in how you perceive things but the phenolic tip does help. but not as much as you may think.

Hope that helps

I just bought a BW J/B from Greg at Billiard Warehouse. I've been looking for a break cue for a long time and have gone thru all the expensive ones from Predator to Stingers to Sledgehammers and this cue turned out the best for me at a third of the money. They are $199 and on sale right now for $143 or $149. Can't remember exactly. Comes with two shafts. Can't say enough about how good this one is for the money.
Having to come back in and edit because I forgot to say one of the shafts is the phenolic tip and ferrule and the other is hard leather so you get a choice especially for those tournaments that don't allow the phenolic tips now.
