Cue tip care

I have been playing pool for a few years but I am not an expert on equipment by any stretch of the imagination (I prefer to concentrate on shooting and making the balls!). A few people have told me I need to look after my tip better as it is getting out of shape.

What are the things I should look out for and what is the best way to look after the cue tip?

If you need to shape your tip, fix a mushrooming problem or burnish the edges of your tip you may want to acquire some type of a tip tool like the one in this link which you can click on here.

This is probably the best tool I have found to date. It is reasonably priced especially for the quality of the product, imo.

You want your tip to always be symmetrically shaped. If one side gets lopsided it could affect the way the tip impacts the cue ball.
(Oh and in case you don't know, generally a softer tip will become more easily misshapen that a harder tip.)
