Cue Tip

First off sorry if this is in wrong section. I recently re tipped my cue at a pool hall. They said it was a moori tip. Now I may just be paranoid, but it's black, and every moori tip I find online is brown. Here are pics of my tip. Are there black Moori tips? Or did I just pay $40 total for something less? Thanks, again sorry for random question and if I posted in wrong section.

Moori

Wrong section, this is for table mechanics. You want the cumaker section to get the best information.
To be fair you need to post pictures of the tip freshly scuffed. Sides have been burnished, possibly had black marker applied. As far as being a moori I can't say. First pic slightly shows the layers, second pic makes it look like a solid leather tip.

Thanks for the reply. Will post in the right section. I feel better about it. Did not know they use black marker. I've already chalked it so I cant take pics of it fresh

I believe you are correct, that there is no such thing as a Moori Black tip. There Moori black tips being sold on eBay however they are counterfeits. Clean the chalk off the tip and scuff the tip slightly. If it is black it is probably a fake. That does not necessarily mean the installer ripped you off He may be the one who was ripped off when he bought it.

Under the chalk it is the correct color, just not on the sides. Even after I scuffed it up somewhat. Just the side is black. Have you ever heard of using black marker around the outside of the cue tip?

If it is the correct color under the chalk then i woud say he probably went the lazy mans way of making the tip look decent by using a marker on the tip. I Have in the past used a wood stain marker on an extremely cheap tip to make it look good. but I would never do that on an expensive tip, nor would i do it to a tip i sent out to a customer. If it were me I would, if it was bothering me, sand the sides lightly unill the marker was gone then reburnish. However I would never go back to that person again. Or if I did i would state in no uncertain terms that I did not want anything applyied to the sides of the tip unless it was a clear burnishing liquid or something clear.

It is also possible that he is using fake moori tips and uses the marker to cover it afterward. If this is the case then I definately wouldnt go back. However I give everyone the benefit of the doubt and assume that they arent out to get me and that it was just a simple difference in style choices. helps me sleep at night if I assume no one would ever intentional screw me over.

Thanks. Just as an update I went back to ask the pool hall owner. The guy who put the tip on was another employee. I went in and asked to see a Moori tip to compare them, then asked him if my tip looked like a Morri (again this time I was talking to the owner who did not know I got my tip from there). He said it looks like a Moori with the black marker around it. I then told him I had it done by the other guy and he said told me they usually put marker on them but typically ask first. So I feel more comfortable about it now. It is a pretty well established pool hall. They hold several large tournaments there each year with various pros occasionally coming doing matches so I doubt he would risk being so stingy. Just had me thinking after spending so much money on the most expensive tip they had, then looking up Moori tips online and not seeing any of them black. Thanks for the advise though.

I've seen people use the marker on the sides ever since I started playing, although in well over 20 years of playing I've only seen two people do that. I have my tips put on by Mike Webb and I've never seen him color the sides of the tips.
