Cue Tip

Hi, i am new here but not to a pool table. I have always had someone else fix my tips on my pool stick (lucasi). I recently paid someone to put a new tip on for me but after 5 games of 9ball the tip flew off. I am interested in fixing my on tips now. Can anyone recommend me tools for this? and where to buy?

Thanks, Chris

Funny you should post this. I said the same thing to a friend of mine the other day. It's amazing how I've been playing this game for so long and I've never bothered to learn how to install a new tip. Sadly, the older & lazier I get, the less likely I am to learn but I do think this is worth doing. Imagine how comfortable you'd be playing in a tournament KNOWING if your tip flew off, you could have that shaft ready by the next match?

IMO...if you don't have a lathe, it is WAY more trouble than it's worth.

Support your local cue tech!!! But find one who knows what he is doing.

If the someone you paid was not a trained cuesmith, you might have the same problem trying to do it yourself. If that person is an experienced cuesmith, take it back to them, if you can, and let them make it right.

Tips occasionally falling off happens to every cuemaker/cuesmith in the business. Give the guy a chance to make it right for you.

With the following tools you can do an excellent job of replacing tips, IMO.

I assume you didn't press the tip on the cue for a long time. it is not merely a put and let it dry technique. you must press it against the shaft as much as possible without distorting the shaft. some basic technique of drying is having the full cue ( both butt and shaft attached together) with the newly installed tip in an upside down position while drying it for a long time. the more time or longer you put it in this position, the better. 30mins is fine by then.
