I have already done a similar cue with a carved sleeve. This one.

Two years ago I bought back another carved sleeve. With the figure of a mammoth. It is a work about 2002. It is about such as the picture of those years.

Now the artist can not do such kind of work, unfortunately. But the style is very interesting and unique. I will try to find other his work.

And now found the time to make the cue with this sleeve.
I chose as a base a cue of a simple design, but unusual wood, because the main thing in this cue is the carved sleeve.

I decided, since this is mammoth on the carving, and then at the joint end on the sleeve must be mammoth ivory. Joint - mammoth tusk, Hoppe ring - mammoth tooth.

Hopefully soon I will be able to complete this project.

very neat, I love carving/sculpting
It looks nice as is now, without sealer or finish

I wonder if any cue can have that flat finish

Thank you.:)
Certainly cover should not affect the carving. This will be the biggest difficulty of the coating procedure.
It will be necessary to protect the carving from the layers of the coating and do not damage by grinding and polishing.
I'll try to make everything neat.:)

At last found the time for Mammoth . Now only have to polish and clean a little around the carved sleeve. I think this will be my first cue in 2016.

Happy New Year. :D

It'd be neat to have that decorative piece be able to screw out to an extension... You can thank me later..LOL..
