Cue wobbles when together, but not apart...

I just bought a cue (via mail) that wobbles when I roll it, but only when it's together - the butt and shaft roll fine apart. I'm assuming this has something to do with the joint itself (?). I'm wondering what could be causing it, and about how much it might cost to fix it... There is no apparent damage to the cue other than the normal small dents on the butt and shaft that come from playing. Thanks in advance for your help!

Oh, and before anybody says anything about the person who sold it to me, I am assuming they didn't know. This person has an excellent iTrader rating - I'm assuming they just haven't played with it in a while, and didn't know about the wobble.

The problem could be as simple as dirt, wax or something on one of the flat joint surfaces. If that is not the case the problem can easily be rectified by a repairman. The surfaces can be very slightly faced off in a lathe. That will assure that the surfaces are perfectly flat...JER

Thanks for your response, and sorry for the late reply - it's been a hell of a week... There's no apparent dirt on the contact surfaces at the joint - I even rubbed it with a scotch brite pad, just in case, and it still wobbles. I guess I'll wait for Chris Byrne to get back and town and take it to him.

Thanks again,
Liz
