I often hear people quoting Mark Wilson as saying something like: If there's a secret to this game, it's hitting the cue ball exactly where you intend to.
With that in mind, I've been playing around with a system for precisely delivering the tip. I don't recall ever seeing or hearing about it, probably because it's either assumed to be commonsense or without any merit.
Anyway, it's not complicated, and I admit that proportions may be off:
Imagine the face of the tip as the face the cueball, and aim to deliver the point on the tip that is equal-and-opposite the intended contact-point on the cue ball to the intended contact-point on the cue ball.
For example, if you want to hit one-tip above center on the ball, imaging the tip as the face of a cueball, you aim to deliver the point one-tip bellow center on the tip to the point one-tip above center on the cueball.
Thoughts? Refinements?
