i see cues with no finish, i really love them, are the woods treated with anything?

Some older cues had a tung oil finish on them.
can they stand the test of time or do they need constant maintenance?
I have 6 that I use now and again with the oil finish, I don't use them a lot and they hang, not stored in a case. I never have done anything to them, would say they were done 5-8 years ago. One is about 35 years old. Same original finish. If you use them every day you may have to do a bit of maintenance every now and then. I like the wood look and feel more so than normal finishes. Guess how you treat and use them would be the big factor.

Yes, If I remember correctly, the tung oil has to be reapplied every so often, depending on how much the cue is used. There are other finishes but tung oil is one of them.
I think we should revise the question, to cues with out smooth gloss finishes.
I've never heard of a cue that was intentionally unfinished. I would be really nervous about climate changes. As the other posters have mentioned, it's probably some type of oil finish. Gives a natural look, but protects the cue.
Per customer wishes I did a natural looking cue with waterlox finish(type of tung oil). I think it looked great. Same thing that I have on hardwood floors in my house.
