Cues with out weights & other questions

Hello,
I'm new to the forum. Hope I’m in the right section.

I have just gotten back into pool after being absent for 40 years and have joined the APA. Have been doing well, but find I would like to get a new cue. I have a Poison Strychnine ST-2 with a 314-2 shaft and the feel is just not there for me. (Got it on the cheap) I don't know if it is the Ghost Joint, or having a weight in it (it is tight)or just the tip (stock). Back when I started playing back in the 60's, I don't remember weights in cues.

Looked at Zinzola and played with one. A very nice and worth the price, but more than I need.

I like the look of the Samsara's Playing and Jump Break Cues but have weights. (Basic Models) (Would love to try one, any comments on them)

I'm in S.W. Virginia NRV and Tommy Reed makes a very nice feeling cue. Has weights but seriously considering one.

Questions;

1-What Brands or Cue Makers have weight less cues & preferred cues with weights.
2- How do you find a cue to try and find custom cue makers cues to try with out hopping on a plane.
3- Poison Strychnine ST-2 with a 314-2 shaft – Did I just get the wrong cue for me. (SL6)
4- Should I get off the no weight kick?
5- Plain or fancy, what’s the difference? Why draw attention to ones self, or why not?
Just curious.

I have read the forum about tips so I will not ask.

Oh! I like around 19.5 oz and I guess I’m leaning toward a custom cue, but not firm on that decision. Looking in the $500.00 ish range on playing cue unless weight less and would spend a little more. Still thinking on jump break cue.
Thanks for any answers or links in advance.
Hope everyone has a great holiday season.
Jeff

2- How do you find a cue to try and find custom cue makers cues to try with out hopping on a plane.I for on have a demo cue for people to try if they want to try one of my cues. With a deposit + shipping I send out the cue. When the cue is returned in the same condition it left in the deposit is returned..
3- Poison Strychnine ST-2 with a 314-2 shaft – Did I just get the wrong cue for me. (SL6)sounds like it
4- Should I get off the no weight kick?Whats the big deal with not haveing a weight bolt?
5- Plain or fancy, what’s the difference? Why draw attention to ones self, or why not?It does not matter its all cosmetic. But to some people a fancy cue gives them a better mind set.

1) Most production cues have weight bolts. Most custom cuemakers can make you a cue without a weight bolt, balance and choice of wood will be your option too.

2) You've already done it. Right here on AZB, the are some of the most talented cuemakers around.

3) If you didn't like the hit, yes you got the wrong cue for you.

4) Yes

5) Personal preferrence

First off welcome to AZ!
As far as weighted cues go they are pretty much the standard and use an adjustable weight bolt system. I am sure there are many cue makers who could please you though. Being in Virginia check Lee Peppers at LP Custom cues. www.lpcustomcues.com He is based in Mechanicsville VA. Makes fine custom cue and you cant beat his prices. You can also send him a personal message on here. He is a member LPCUSTOMCUES. Welcome back to the game and fun of getting a new cue. Enjoy.

Thank you Joe
I will be looking at your site.
Letting customers try cue, is a awsome service.

You came to the right place....

1-What Brands or Cue Makers have weight less cues & preferred cues with weights. Most Production cues have weightbolts; some customs do as well -- Joe and Lee both do some really nice work as well as a few others here on AZ
2- How do you find a cue to try and find custom cue makers cues to try with out hopping on a plane. Join a league and ask your friends to hit a few balls with their cue; go to a cue show and try some different cues; spend a ton of $$$ a buy one of everything :grin-square:
3- Poison Strychnine ST-2 with a 314-2 shaft – Did I just get the wrong cue for me. (SL6) I have no idea
4- Should I get off the no weight kick? Yep, having a weightbolt allows the cue to be adjusted -- not necessarily a bad thing
5- Plain or fancy, what’s the difference? Why draw attention to ones self, or why not?Depends on you -- plain = <$$$ -- fancy = >$$$
Just curious.

I have read the forum about tips so I will not ask. IMHO, the tip/ferrule combination is going to be one of most important things you choose; joint configuration is also critical; weight and balance is a personal consideration; wood types and wraps or wrapless is another thing; fancy or simple is last but, not necessarily least
