Cuesmith deluxe help

I have a deluxe that is 4 or 5 years old. I use it for almost EVERYTHING. Right now my front 3 jaw seems to be slipping no matter how tight I get it even on the simplest of tasks. Need to bust out a batch of LBM threaded and capped ferrules but the dang things are spinning even as I drill them.

I'm wondering if maybe I need to knock in apart and clean it? I've had it apart once before. From what I remember I don't particularly want to do it again.

Any other suggestions?

Perhaps a good cleaning would help as dust works its way into the the chuck over time and can clog the innards.
That usually causes sticking but it might be effecting the amount of jaw force you can put on material.

Examine the jaw surfaces where they contact the material you are chucking up. Have they become highly polished?
If all else fails, a layer or two of masking tape around the material will always improve the griping power.

If you have a rear chuck you might switch them for now, also I pull mine apart every once in a while and clean them, pop off the snap ring and they come right apart, and what i have seen you can't get it together wrong. I just slide the jaws in till they touch equally in the center, slide the back part of the chuck on and rotate it slightly and it will fall in place and put the snap ring on your done. Also if I take the the jaws of the chuck I mark 1,2,3, and the slot they come out of just in case they have to go back the same way. (I don't think it matters but i know my luck, Ha Ha.) Good Luck.

After trying all your suggestions, and numerous pm's with Chris, I ended up buying a new one from Chris. For the little cost of a new one vs how much use I've gotten out of it in five years, I should have replaced it sooner.

Anyway thanks for the suggestions gentlemen, and thanks for the as usual great customer support from Chris Hightower. We determined I needed to replace it over Saturday and Sunday. Ordered it on Monday. Shipped on Tuesday. Back making firewood on Thursday.

I didn't but an entire new headstock, just the 3 jaw chuck with the aluminum jaws.
