CueTable Shot Contest: 06.11: 9 Ball Target Pool Drill

Dear All:

Hope you guys had fun the last week and everyone is back to his/her regular form. We almost wanted to have a costume drill contest. It's probably best to leave it to the next year.

For Nov 06 we have designed a new drill based on Tanner's input. It combines some interesting elements found in target pool, straight pool and 9 ball.

The rules are open for public suggestions. It will be finalized on Friday, Nov. 10, 2006. Please send any suggestions or comments to us.

10 & 5 extra points for doing it on a 9ft or 8ft is huge! Maybe cut that in half or since I have a barbox, I would have to shoot faster than Luc Salvas to make up those points.

Great Idea, im a little worried though that the paper might move if a ball passes over top of it and then comes back to get back on it for position..

(Example. Say you set the paper next to the one ball between the cue ball and the 1 ball and you play the one in the side and draw back onto the paper. The force of the ball going over the paper may move it.)

Hi Tanner:
Comparing this drill on a 9 foot table to it on a bar box:

1, It takes more time to move around
2, It takes more time for the cueball to stop; the average cue ball path is longer
3, The target zone is considerably "smaller" in ratio
4, The aiming to make a shot needs to be more accurate.

Ideally we should just run 3 contests: one for each sized table.

Someone has made a suggestion about using different size paper, this could be an interesting solution:

> of paper for bar tables rather than bonus points for a 9-foot table.

Paper moving?

I think there is some gripping power when a sheet of paper laying flat on the table cloth. This power comes from friction and the air pressure. If the cue ball carries that much force to move the paper before it stops, it would not end up staying on it anyway.

Or maybe I didn't get your question right?

Just to clarify/verify, landing "on top of the sheet" requires the base of the cue ball touching the sheet, rather than the edge of the cue ball hanging over the sheet?

Changing the size of the paper to fit each size paper would be more fair.

Please vote for contest rules

Here are a few options, everyone please share your opinions :

1, Use different sized papers for different sized tables.
We need to come up with a good size chart that is easy for everyone to follow. I suggest:

8.5 x 11 for 9 ft table
7 x 10 for 8 ft table, (1" off the top, 1" off the side of a letter sized sheet)
5.5 x 8.5 for 7 ft table (Cut a letter sized sheet in half)

The score system remain the same, less bonus pts for bigger table

2, Use the same size paper for all, adjust the target point system

6 pt for meeting the target on a 9 ft table, 20 pt bonus for running a rack
5 pt for meeting the target on a 8 ft table, 17 pt bonus for running a rack
4 pt for meeting the target on a 7 ft table, 14 pt bonus for running a rack

maximum 3 racks total (less pressure due to time constraint)

CueTable contest is still a very new idea. We have been trying to leave the rules open to everyone on any sized tables. If you have suggestions or comments on how to make it more fun and useful, please kindly let us know.
