Curious if anyone here is very familiar with the current pool scene in the Austin TX area?

I have lived in Austin for around 8 months now, but have not gotten into the pool scene yet.

I am really starting to miss playing though, and I am curious about tournaments in the area.

I only know of a few, and I am not even sure if they are going on anymore. One on Sunday nights, at Betsy's, and one on Thursday nights at Slick Willie's, on Burnet.

I also heard of the Friday night tournaments at Skinny Bob's, in Round Rock, but that is way too far for me to get to, in my situation, with being pretty stranded in South Austin.

I know it is a long shot, but I am just curious if anyone here knows of any other tournaments, going on, within the city of Austin.

I ride public transit, which I quickly learned, after moving here, is horrible in Austin, so it is not easy for me to get to places.

The easiest place for me to get to is Warehouse Billiards, but they do not run tournaments. I also have Betsy's, but I have to take 2 buses to get there.

The nicest pool hall in the city seems to be this place called, The Grand, but sadly, they do not run any pool tournaments either. Their tables look to be very nice, and well maintained though. The one time I visited Betsy's, the cloth on the tables was pretty worn out, but I have not been back there since then.

Worn cloth is a huge turn off for me. And, with the super high hourly rates that these pool halls charge, here in Austin, they should have well maintained tables, in my opinion.

Oh my, but the bars with pool tables that I have visited have horrid, very worn out cloth, so maybe I should not even be asking about bar tournaments around town.

I guess that if there were any pool players in Austin, who owned a bar, with a few Valleys for example, then he probably would keep them well maintained, to the best of his ability.

Anyways, just curious if anyone here, who lives in Austin, knows of any well maintained tables, with bar tournaments going on?

lived in austin in the 80’s and the buses were greatbut i lived near campus and capitol

put a note up at that place in round rock looking for a ride to and from south austin on tournament nights- gotta be someone that makes the trip with room in the car?

Oh yeah, around campus, they have shuttle buses, that probably come very often. I would not mind living near Campus, like in the Hyde Park area. That is near where this really nice pool hall is located, called, The Grand.

And, these days, most people probably do not like allowing strangers in their cars, for various reasons. I kind of scared to get into strangers cars myself.

I would really love to go to that Skinny Bob's tournament though.

I heard some great players play in it.
