Simple question. If a young player plays in semi pro/ pro events (and cashing sometimes) does that constitute him as being a pro? Also does that preclude him from playing amateur sports in school and such? what is your opinion. was just wondering if they should be allowed to participate in amateur sports in school?.........mike
Mike the BCA had similiar guidelines to these of the ACS. Maybe this could help:
Pro Player Guidelines
2006-2007 Pro Player Guidelines: (in pdf format)
Pro Player List: Men's
Pro Player List: Women's
2006-2007 ACS Pro Player Guidelines
Players of “Professional Player” status shall be ineligible to compete in any American CueSports Alliance sanctioned amateur event between the dates of June 1, and May 31, of the year in question. A player will be considered a professional if he or she is listed in the rankings of the various professional organizations in the year ending prior to the year of any ACS sanctioned amateur event.
• Top 128 men players of the World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA)
• Top 32 women players of the WPA
• Top 32 players of the United States Professional Pool Players Association (UPA)
• Top 32 players of the Women’s Professional Billiard Association (WPBA)
ACS reserves the right to change ranking quotas at any time based on changes in a professional organization’s status or circumstances.
The ACS Player Review Committee reserves the right to disqualify anyone formerly or currently considered to be a professional-caliber player based on Known Ability (KA). If placed on the list by the committee, the player will be immediately notified and made aware of the process for petitioning to regain amateur status, if desired. Players who formerly met ACS “professional” criteria and who are considering competing in ACS amateur events should be aware of the following: A player will continue to have pro status until the specific player successfully petitions the ACS in writing to be re-instated as an amateur and is proposed to be re-instated to amateur status by the ACS Player Review committee [with final approval by the ACS Board of Directors]. If a player is unsure of his/her status, the player should contact the ACS League & Player Programs Department for confirmation of status prior to entering the event.
