Current State of the Art Pool Table Lighting?

I installed 12 Perimeter lights, in 2 rows of 6 at a local pool hall opening soon. They went pretty well. Have one at home also. They look very nice mounted in line with each other.

It would be cool if they offered a deeper extruded aluminum frame, or had an extra slot that would accommodate a thin eggcrate diffuser.
 
I used 2'x4' drop in led flat panel. I built the frame out of oak...It is bright but we have played for 8hrs and no eye fatigue. I think the light was about $70 on Amazon.

$51 shipping seems pretty good. This MAY be what Perimeter Lighting rebrands/resells (for a LOT more), pictures in Alibaba are the same as on their web site. I'm not recommending, this is just what I ran across on the web.
 
I've seen many beautiful examples of pool table lamps. It seems like either decorating has gone out of style or maybe we cant' afford nice things? why are new "styles" so void of , any STYLE ?

just one tiny example,, but of course there are any beautiful ones to choose from. I don't wish any part of my home to look like a drug store. LED is fine but that's just the source.. all these new LED lights seem downright boring. -

it's just one guys opinion, but even if it were a pool hall I was designing, and not for at home, I'd still want it to have style. they lights should fit the atmosphere you wish to reveal, and provide light and you can have both.

I like the idea of using nice wood, and some mica for the eye glare.. I find this example a lot more appealing than a lot of them, but of course there are many different styles that you may personally find particularly attractive.

its not just pool trends, now they make kitchens all white and make them part of the living room.. Why, so guests can help with the dishes ?

Functional >>> stylish. The rest of my room is decorated...And the perimeter light is stylish anyway.

I like my pool table lit up like an operating table, or maybe like an autopsy room, thank you very much. ;)
 
The new lights are horrible in my opinion. They are too bright and keeps my awareness level high when they are already high when I'm playing pool. I've played under the arena lights and go an hour max of playing.

Anyone who has a pool table can flick on their table lights and hang out in the ambiance. Today's room lights will light up an entire room and any shadows you may have in there. ROFL It ends up being the brightest room in the house when it should be the most relaxing room in the house.

The new lights are too damn bright.
 
having good lighting over the table but not too much in the surrounding seems to help with concentration.. It seems increasingly common that there is also a big screen TV and people tend to focus on any TV within sight, like if they stop watching it , they will miss something more important than the game. It usually amounts to watching commercials or being distracted by needing to run to it and click to stop annoying google ads etc. .
 
These new style perimeter lights seem tomda great job of keeping shadows off the table compared to old school lights.
I tend to be a function over looks guy.
 
The tradeoff is very minimal. We never had problems with shadows in the past.

We should be appreciated for being able to play well in shadows.

I think some are forgetting how good some of these box lights were. They would put that reflective screen and it brightens the table plenty without blowing up the entire room.

personal preferences, depends where the table is. I put mine in the living room so I don't want harsh LED bars. I like the look of the pretty standard pool light fixture but the LED bulbs can be seen when sitting and I'd like a diffuse or a way to block the lights when people are sitting and not playing pool.

a friend put up a light bar and just put the shiny metal duct tape along either side of it to block it from people sitting, not pretty but it sure is bright. that's a cheap solution..

some of the 2 or 3 light fixtures can be raised or lowered with a pulley system, maybe that helps , some of those look attractive to me..having some style.. maybe you cold lower them if they are in your eyes and you are not playing pool..
 
Before one of my best friend and practice partner moved ,he had a table in his house. It was outfitted with with an old school box light. The table was in his living room.

We would play with table lights and other lights on and when we got serious we play with just table lights on. If company came over then it was just table lights on. It tends to get people to watch more intently.

It’s less distracting and has a true arena feel to

Sadly that table had a slight roll off. 😆 but we always said the table had personality.
