Congratulations to Pedro Piedrabuena for once again making the knock-out stage in the Current World Cup in La Baule, France. He plays Lutfi Cenet, the very talented Turk, in the first round of the knockout.

For those with kozoom accounts it will be streaming at 14:00 their time, which I believe is 8 AM Eastern time and, alas, 6 AM my time.

Go Pedro!!

And another congratulations to Pedro, who won his match against Cenet, 40-22 in 21 innings for a pretty strong 1.9 average. He will face Dick Jaspers in the next round.

In what must have been a bit of a shock, Caudron is out, losing 40-19 in 11 innings to a Vietnamese player I am not familiar with, but whose 3.6 average for the game is the best so fr in the round of 32.

Semi-finals and finals are tomorrow.

One semi is Blomdahl v. Sanchez

Other Semi is Zanetti v. Coklu

Pedro made a valiant effort in is match against Jaspers, taking him to 40-38. Jaspers then lost iin the Qf round to Zanetti after equalizing from 40-38 in 16 innings. Zanetti ran 8 in the shootout but Jaspers could only manage 4.

Sanchez had a scintillating run of 16 in his match against Tasdemir. His 40 in 14 innings was the best performance in the qfs.

Blomdahl started slow, barely averaging 1 for the first dozen innings or so but then came alive to beat the Greek, Polychronopolous in 23 innings, 40-31.

Coklu had to handle the home town crowd rooting for the Frenchman, Berbeillon, but came through, winning 40-30 in 17 innings.

The first semi is at 6 AM eastern time, the second is at 8 AM and the finals are at 11 AM. Streamable with a subscription to to kozoom.

too bad no one will be able to view it, the stream is near unwatchable unless your a die hard sticking it out

I agree. The freezes seem to be associated to them going to and from replay. Plus the end camera angle is terrible, making the table look like a trapezoid.

I was telling them in chat that this is the worst ever for me, not one match before has had much issues

Replay and all never a big issue but now many have the same problem today

Well, Sanchez won, 40-38 but in 31 innings Not a very impressive match The other semi wasn't any better. Are they all nervous? Or did the conditions change? On several shots players looked perplexed by the angle the all was taking.

As to the stream, it will be interesting to see how that replay compares to the live stream. It seems like it is a technical problem on kozoom's part but that is puzzling given that this is at the end of the event. Technical glitches should have been worked out earlier, if thta is what was causing the problem. It is a conundrum,

And now, as we wait for the final, the stream is going on and Raymond Ceulemans is giving a little exhibition while wearing a suit. Tres cool.

its running smooth without freezing right now for mr 100

The stream for the finals was fine. Weird.

Coklu won rather easily 40-20 in 21 innings. Daniel seemed a bit out of sorts all day. He beat Blomdahl in the semis but neither of them shot well, taking 31 innings.

All in all, today was a little bit of a letdown with Coklu really being the only one to play well. When you have three of the very top players over the last 20+ years, you expect better than a 1.2 average from the best of them. Coklu is the only one who had a higher average than Caudron had in the game that eliminated him.

Maybe Bert will chime in and give us some insight on today's play. Was it nervousness? Did something cause the equipment conditions to change? I don't know if it has any significance, but I saw Blomdahl miscue twice and Sanchez once, and in my viewing experience miscuing is pretty rare for guys at this level. (I, OTOH, miscue with great regularity).

Edited to add: This is Coklu's second WC win. It will be interesting to see how this affects his ranking.

Saw Dani miscue several times 2 times in the final and atleast once with tb who also miscued himself a few times I think

Never seen so many miscues in any event

That, and some of the looks I saw on Blomdahl's face when a ball would come off a rail at what seemed to be an unexpected angle made me wonder if something changed in the playing characteristics of the table ot the humidity or something. It was just strange - almost inexplicable. The quarter-finals were played at a significantly better level than the semi-finals and finals.

Nevertheless, adjusting to the table and conditions is part of the game and Coklu deserves all the credit in the world.

Now . . . . on to Bordeux and the Worlds. We leave a week from next Saturday.
