Cushion install problem Black Crown

I am installing new cushions on my Canada Billiards Black Crown (similar to the gold crown). While I was taking off one of the cushions, some of the wood stuck to the cushion and splintered off. What should I do to resolve this problem? Picture attached.

Also should I use any type of glue remover to remove the old contact cement residue?

This is the first table that I have ever worked on. I'm willing to take the risk of doing it myself as long as I learn something.

Thank you very much.

You can fill it with Bondo or epoxy and saw dust mixture and sand it smooth... or if you prefer you can fit the wood slivers back in place with good quality epoxy and sand it smooth. Either way just try to restore the original plain of the original surface. I do not recommend wood fillers as they do not seem to have the hold or strength I look for.

Ya I didnt think wood filler would stand up to the wear. Will the contact cement adhere to the epoxy well?

Bondo is the best imo ...
I use a heat gun on the old contact cement to make it bubble up then remove the rest with a razor scraper.

use 3m-10 glue to adhese the new cushions.

make sure you know the correct profile of cushions to replace on this subrail as modern cushions may not match up depending on the age of the table. subrail angle will tell the story looks like k-55 based on the glue pattern, but looks can be deceiving ...

So for bondo do you mean car repair bondo? And yes it is definitely K-55 profile, I confirmed that with my supplier. The table was purchased new in summer of 2004. Thanks to everyone for helping me out, I appreciate it and boy am I learning a thing or two.

the car repair bondo works and so does the home repair product. make sure you get it almost perfect before it drys .....it will sand out but it's a lot of sanding .....i used a little mouse sander seemed to work well....but don't slap it on like dry wall mud and expect and easy sanding time.

3m-10 glue can be purchased on Amazon. it is nasty stuff and it will set up quick depending on your temp. ...comes out like snot and can get pretty messy....it helps to have another person as you lay down the rubber making sure it's straight ....

I like to use exam gloves with both products ...unless you like picking your hands for weeks on end.

next comes the questions of cutting the rubber and facings and sanding them.....

good luck ....post some pics of the job ....
