I have been talking to Ron Betts and Barry Cameron about their cues. Has anyone here hit with either? If so, are they worth buying? There is a Barry Cameron cue I'm in love with thats a great price but I want to hear feedback from someone that has hit with one before. Both have been very helpful over email but I want to make sure I'm getting my moneys worth.

I've hit a Rick Howard, Andy Gilbert, and an Olivier. How would Cameron's or Betts' cues compare to those? TIA.

I realize you are concerned with where your money is going and if you are getting value for your investment.

Forty years ago there were three kinds of wine...red...white...and pink. It was very possible to go to a restaraunt or liquor store and buy an undrinkable bottle of wine. Today it's much harder to find bad wine for sale at almost any price because if you sell bad wine you'll be out of business pretty soon.

Forty years ago there were just a few decent cues....Palmer....Rich.....Rambow.....and a couple of exotics like Balabushka and a few others. Along came Adam, Viking, and a few others. Nowadays for the amount of money you're talking about there are many choices, none of which will be bad cues. Some will be better than others, but I don't think it is strictly a question of who made the stick. The materials and processes these days are FAR SUPERIOR to what I was looking at in the 1960's. Buy your cue based on actualy shooting with it. That's the best advice I can give you.

I own many, many cues. I have a Schrager that I wouldn't take to a dog fight. On the other hand I have an old Adam cue that I'll put up against anyone's cue for quality or playability. I have an expensive Pechauer that hits like a ton of scrapwood and I have a Jacoby that's like power steering. My favorite stick is a Tim Scruggs that I had made for me in 1989, but it's only marginally better than an older Huebler that I got last year. Find a stick you like playing with and buy it. There's lots of time to try and buy others down the road.

I've only shot a Howard and Olivier, but dont have access to any other custom cues. Thats why I wanted to see if anyone has dealt with these two guys as they have what I like, but I want to make sure their cues shoot like they should for the price. Neither is really high and have great prices, I just wanted to see if anyone else here has dealt with them or shot with eithers stick. Cameron has the stick I love but havent seen their names on here before. Thanks for your help!

Barry Cameron is one of the more under-rated cuemakers in the country. He makes a solid cue in the Southwest style. If I were to compare, then I'd compare his big pin cues with an Andy Gilbert. Simiilar hit.

I'd highly recommend him.

I have heard nothing but good things about Barry's cues. I can't speak for the way they hit, I am scared to try one. I'm not in the market for a cue and have zero self restraint. If you are in love with a cue that you have never played with it must look pretty special. Perhaps this thread is worth a picture or two??
