Ok, i have been thinking about getting a custom cue( jacoby) well a friend of mine also has one. well he was saying that if you want a custom cue you need to tell them how you want it to hit, IE like a Meucci or schon or Predator.

Well anyways my question ,,, can custom cue makers make thier cues to play like a Meucci, or Schon or whatever. Or is it just the difference of how they make the shaft for the person.

Hit is very subjective, and many people have different opinions and ideas about it.
Do YOU know how a "Meucci, or Schon or whatever" hits? Do you know what makes them hit like they do or what the difference is between them? That is where you need to start. Figure out what characteristics YOU WANT in your cue and try to be as specific as possible. Hit with as many different cues as you can, and try to determine what makes the best one(s) feel right to you.
This is the TRUE definition of a custom cue. You figuring out exactly what you want and a cuemaker creating it for you.

:D

Well thats where i think my problem is lol. I had a schon for a couple yrs, and now i shoot with a Meucci Original.

Now i like having the stiff hit of a Schon, but i like also having the ease of putting english on the ball with a Meucci.

And yes i know how my Schon hit and my Meucci hit.

i just wish i could get a mix of Schon n Meucci lol

Have a taper cut that is not as stiff as the schon, but not cut back as much as the Meucci, and you might get it. :D

I have always said when I started developing the hit of my cues that I wanted to achieve something about half way between a Meucci and a South West. For those who prefer the high action hit of a Meucci, but not as whippie, I put on a special High Action ferrule that holds up better than Meucci, but still gives the high action hit. I use tighter grained wood and slightly stiffer taper than Meucci so it is a bit stiffer. Those are things to consider. My son plays with cues built like that and I personally use the harder ferrule with less action since most everyone went to the faster cloth. I don't feel I need the higher action as often. You might consider buying a cue with two shafts having each ferrule and then once you decide which is best for you, change the other ferrule out. Thanks for your input. I like the hit of Andy Gilbert and the Richard Black, but how can you go to a cuemaker and tell them I want this Tad to have the hit like one of Andy's cues??

I have used a predator shaft for the reason of "portablity". Stop laughing and hear me out. I like how the shaft hits, and then another thing comes into play.

I have a uni-lock joint on it and I can move it to several different cues and shaft is the same so I can play with multiple cues and spend very little time adjusting to the cue.

The other joint that seems hot is the radial pin and I have a new cue that has it. If we could only get these damned old cuemakers to all make them all the same joint. (That was a joke).

I have a buddy that buys Szamboti's we talked about this. He had a pretty good laugh at my expense. He said that what I do is kinda like taking away from the cuemaker. He enjoyed the hit of the Black or Schick or whatever and took them for what they are instead of what they arent. He had a point.
