Custom Cue Sponsors

I was watching a womens event from 1993 on ESPN Classic. The event ws partially sponsored by Huebler custom cues. I have never seen a custom maker sponsor events before. I had always heard that they did not have the means to do so. I thought it was interesting to see it happen.

It seems to me that people like to play with what the pros use. Take a look at the changes in pool table sales. I was talking to someone who has a pool table store, who told me that Olhausen had really picked up their sales when they aggressively sponsored pool events on tv, and their tables used, while Brunswick slowed considerably in sales at that time.

How many threads have we seen where people ask what the pros use. I would think that if a custom maker could make enough cues, it would worth their while to have their name seen in conjunction with televised tournaments. BUT, what do I know!!

Huebler was not so much a custom maker. More along the lines of McDermott, Meucci, etc....with many people working to make his cues and a huge available production line. Top custom makers wouldn't see a huge benefit from the exposure as most all of the top custom makers already have a long multi year wait for cues as is....why increase a 5 yr wait to 8 or 9 years...why bump a 8 yr wait to 12 yrs? Some have even stopped currently taking new orders...like Eric Crisp & Richard Harris.;)
