Custom cue value: Your design vs. Cue builder design

What is everyone's take on cue value?

A customer's design made by, lets say, Ginacue....versus an original Ernie designed cue made by Ginacue?

I see a lot of people hiring great builders to build their cue but it got me thinking. Did they hire the builder based on his design or construction?I would buy a Tonkin designed cue rather than design a cue myself and have him build one. If I wanted to design my own, any other cue builder would do.

I think if I was to order a custom cue, I would have the builder sketch up 3 to 5 plans and let them design it 100 percent and choose.

At what point should we distinguish an original design versus a customers? Does it matter?

I think a cue maker wouldn't spend the time thinking up several different designs to see if you like any of them. They would want to know what you like to see in a cue that appeals to you so that you would be happy with the cue enough to buy it. So you actually end up helping in the design anyway. Or you just ask the cue maker what he has available and pick from them. That's the good thing about buying a cue already done, you can tell right off if you like the looks and then you can shoot with it to see if you like the way it feels. I don't think it matters who designed the cue as much as who made it.

well judging by my cue "if you've seen it" I want all me in it, only leaving the "well i would do this instead up to him but still my decision". I don't want to be the one saying it. Like cue fix said, buying one already built is one thing I like the idea of going off of one of their designs as help if I don't really know what I want, but again going off of my latest I don't like the norm, for that i would go with their feedback or current work if that's the case.

at times "custom" orders are pain in the *ss... client prefers tulip/softer woods and expects firm hitter? ebony/dense wood combo and wants 18oz?

if you really want a certain cue, made by a certain maker... better just give him/her your wishlist/design concept and let him decide if he/she can attain such.
