Many years ago i built a custom lite box 75x25x6” with 6 three ft 5K flouresent bulbs , I’d like to upgrade to some LED strips.
Has anyone done this to their lite and can make suggestions. Much appreciated.

I built this light but kept fluorescents using Philips bulbs (specs below). I was going to go LED but I had used these bulbs in a different custom light I built and I liked the performance. I didn't want to experiment with the LED's so I just used what I know worked and worked well. The fixture uses (8) 4' 5K bulbs with a total output of 20,800 Lumens at a CRI of 90.

I removed the 4 HO T12 lamps and ballast in my fixture and put ballast bypass LED in their place. Got them frosted and then out an egg crate style diffuser to remove glare.

BTW, those lights above look real good!

The problem is that the box is has a 73” inside dimension. Thinking multiple led strips would be the best solution. Problem solved
I just found 6’ led bypass tubes that will work. Now how many lumens are required when the light is 47” above the table?

I'd say no less than 18K.

Alphalite makes flat side lit LED panels that you'd normally install in a dropped ceiling - that would have been the simple solution.
I built one from poplar. Way too much work, but I'm happy with the result.
I used two 2'x4' panels end to end. The the low voltage dimmer fits in a standard wall box. Normally I leave it cranked all the way up. If I were to do it again I'd use four 1'x4' panels providing more even coverage, but I can't complain with the 2 x 4's.

You'll have to ask Alphalite for a dealer near you.

1x4 Panel
FPL-14L/850 5000K
$82 each

2x4 Panel
FPL-24H/850 5000K
$99 each

Dimmer
WSBD010DECC1
$60

The 2x4 diffuser panels are from Diamond ($50 each)
