Custom shafts vs Predator/OB1

Ok, I have been on AZ for only a little while now but I have been getting more and more interested in acquiring a custom cue in the future. My question is this, if I am currently playing a Predator Z2 shaft and really like what it does for me, is there a cue maker whose shaft (standard) would give the same type of feel and or response? I see a lot of great cues and the pins would not fit my existing shaft so I could buy a new one for that cue but according to you the AZ community many of you prefer the original shaft over the laminated ones.

Any opinions?

I know, that's unheard of round these parts :D

It's all a matter of preference. Some people will say the custom shafts are better others will say next gen shafts are better. Only thing to do is try and see for yourself.

You will get mixed reviews on this depending on who answers. Some people think it is a sin to put a laminated shaft on a custom cue. Others think their is no problem with this.

If you like your Z2 shaft then I would suggest finding a custom cue maker that will make you a butt specifically for the shaft you want to use. That is what I did when I went to 0B-1 shafts. I ordered the shafts from the company as blanks and then my cue maker made the joint rings to match the cue he was making me.

It was the best thing I have ever done!
