cutting metalring work

i having a problem cutting a metal ring for a cue i am build it seems that every time my router touches the metal ring it starts to virbrat and chip the ring work and wood please advice how am i going to cut the ring
the ring thickness is 0.5mm

What's behind it and what kind of cutter are you using?
How deep of a cut?

More questions

Could the ring have broken loose? Did you rough up the surface of the ring before gluing it in? What type of glue did you use?

If it's not that, light cuts, super sharp cutter, slow feed....oh, and next time, avoid using metal rings They're a pain all the way around!
