cutting wrap channels

I'm starting to mess with wrap installs, and I'm looking for input on a proposal.

I can pick up some beat up bar cues cheap, and I'd like to cut them in half and send the butts out to have wrap channels cut into them for the purpose of practicing wrap installs and maybe displaying some of the completed ones.

I don't intend to convert these to playing cues. The channels wouldn't need to be pretty, just functional (i.e. correct length and depth). Is this an economically feasible proposal?

you might be able to hit up a pawn shop or two and pick up some cheap cues with wraps. Then you can just remove the wrap and practice.

If you have a lathe, you can cut your own channel, and the knowledge learned there can help with performing a perfect wrap job.

The length of the wrap is approx. 12 inches long. The depth of the channel is normally .025 inches deep. After wrapping you may want to practice pressing the wrap.

Yep. If you have the ability to spin the cue to install a wrap, you should also have the ability to cut the wrap channel. If you don't have a lathe that you can taper on, it can still be done if you're patient and careful and you'll learn more than you know.

Ok, let me rephrase....I have a repair lathe but don’t have an offsetting tailstock or a router or a router mount or a power feed setup or the desire to learn to cut a wrap channel right now.

If you are a cuemaker that is interested in cutting wrap channels in a few bar cues, please email me at bingdog74@gmail.com with pricing.

Thanks
