any body now what that means??
a guy contacted me about my jacobs chuck
his lathe is a birmingham YCL1236GH
the specs say D1-4 spindle
we are trying to figure out if my chuck with 2.25 x 8 threads will fit his lathe
any help will be very much aprreciated
thanks in advance

I believe he has a chuck with 4 pins that mount it to the nose of the spindle with eccentric (D shaped) lugs. If your chuck mounts with threads he will need an adaptor cam plate that he can thread to accept the chuck. Chris.

My lathe has a D1-4 Cam Lock Spindle. Check MSC, Enco, etc. These places offer the D1-4 Cam lock plates which my chuck mounts to. They offer several other types as well. Don't know about a threaded chuck but MSC would be able to help you. Ask to speak to someone who is familiar with lathes.

Hope this helps.

The back of the jacobs chuck can be removed by taking out the bolts and the D1-4 camlock spindle adapter is put on in its place. Jacobs may still be making this chuck, they have been making them since the 40's. If he cant find one new, look at used machinery places to find one or a local machine shop may have one of the adaptors in the corner gathering dust, not any use on cnc machines today.

so far today i have talked to enco, msc and jacobs
jacobs says they haven't made this style chuck since the 1980's
they referred me to J & L industrial
talked to a tech guy there
he says it's doable but it's gonna take him some digging to find the right parts
waiting to hear back from him now
