I am wanting to create a daily pratice routine for myself to get the most benefits. I shoot league 1 night a week and 1 or 2 small local tournaments a week. I have viewed and tried several websites and videos. I am looking to improve my focused shot making and cue ball position play.

Thanks in advance

What league do you play and what is your skill level?

You do not want a set scheduled routine of the same shots or drills. I'd say each week you work on a Strength, a Weakness, breaking, speed control and safeties. Also find one particular shot that you have difficulty with and repeat the shot 30-50 times until you are very confident in it. This way you will go week after week and slowly have less 'problem shots'.

Speed Drills - 15 balls where you shoot 1 table length (1/2 lag speed), 15 balls at lag speed, 15 balls at 3 speed (1 1/2 lag speed or 3 table lengths).

Straight Stroke - Easy = cue ball on head spot, shoot along the headstring directly into the rail and back to your tip. Medium = head spot and shoot toward the foot spot trying to lag the cue ball back to your tip, Hard = freeze a ball to the rail at the 2nd diamond (head string) and place cue ball on head spot - shoot directly into the frozen ball and try to get the cue ball to come back toward your tip, VERY HARD = Frozen ball at the foot rail on the 2nd diamond - cue ball on the head spot, shoot directly into the frozen ball and see if you can have it hit the head rail (or even close to your tip)

Playing the Ghost: Start with 3 balls - break, take ball in hand and run in order. If you succeed twice in a row then add a ball. If you fail twice in a row then remove a ball. Repeat this every couple weeks to have a really good idea of progress and how many balls you can run.

Trust your Stroke: throw 15 balls out and pick any ball plus pick any ball as your next ball. Do your routine, get down on the shot and then for the final stroke CLOSE YOUR EYES. Keep your eyes closed until you hear the ball go in the pocket. This will get you to focus on the only thing you have control over - stroking the cue ball straight and staying down.

Preshot routine test: throw 15 balls out and pick any ball plus pick any ball as the next ball. Do your routine, get down on the shot, WITHOUT ANY PRACTICE STROKES shoot the ball in. Don't get careless with the stroke, follow through and stay down. This gets you to bear down on your routine, alignment, approach and such.

Stroke test: To practice on your smooth stroke. Try humming to yourself on your final stroke. If you notice the pitch change it is because your are tensing up and hitting the ball. Stay completely relaxed throughout the shot. Keep your grip hand and arm loose and relaxed. Don't hit the ball, but swing smoothly through the ball toward your object.
