Can anyone give me any information on the quality and playability of these custom cues. Thanks in advance. Rich

If you can, get your hands on one of his hard-to-find "1 of 1" cues. I hear they're going to be worth something someday.....

:p :p :p

Seriously, use the AZ Search function.

If you want one to play they are good cues. If you want one where you think it will be worth more than what you paid for it....think again.

I own two of em and I love the hit. For the money they are nice. I can say that I didn't care much for the shaft that came with it so I have a 314-2 on one of em and an OB-1 for the other. If you buy one of his eBay cues make sure to specify the taper, weight and tip diameter.

Oh yea I should've added that they hit very soft. If you don't like a soft hit then you should look for a firmer hitting cue. Outside of what I already said I'll add that the work looks decent even if most of his cues look pretty much the same (they mostly all have black points, different wood and some different inlays, but same concept). It also has a nice balance to it.

Here and there he'll change some design features like ringwork or an inlay here and there. If you're set on getting one just wait till you see one you really like cuz they all sell for roughly the same price.

Thanks Gunzby. I just sent you a ping. What can you tell me about his DP-R shaft compared to a OB-1 (which I use now) ? Thx

I honestly know nothing about the DP-R or his DP-Rx which are supposedly built like the 314-2 and Z2. I don't know how they hit, how they feel, the construction or quality of shaft wood he uses so I won't try to come up with a guess or review that could be seen as unjustly positive or negative.

i have played with the DP-R and liked it, It gave the same feel as the 314-2 i had on my schon. actualy had a little more bite but i think that was in the tip.

Dp-r

I owned one of the EBAY DP cues and I must be honest with you, I hated it. I called Dale and told him the cue hit soft, the tip job was done sloppily with glue showing on the ferrule and the shaft provided a fair amount of deflection for a laminated shaft. He told me to play with it for a few weeks and to 'get used to it'. So, basically, I was stuck with it.

I had the Mexican Sunwood cue with the DP-R shaft and even an upgrade to a Talisman extra hard tip and it still hit like a bag of sand. To me, the OB-1 hits firmer than the DP-R, but they both have that cushioney, non-responsive hit. The core of the butt looking down at the pin wasn't even centered properly. That cue was an absolute joke. I had the chance to see one of my friend's cues and you could feel the inlays and the cnc work as if they were sticking out of the cue. I sold it 6 wks later for almost half of what I paid for it, and was happy to get that.

My suggestion to you, STAY AWAY FROM DP'S EBAY CUES.

I personally own a DP-411 and it hits nothing like the ebay cues. It has a firm, and solid hit with nice work done on the butt. http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=122092&highlight=dp-411

It's for sale with three shafts, one of them is a 314-2. It says 1 of 1 on it and it is well made, I think Dale himself probably made it as opposed to one his shop guys. Dale's cues were at one time highly desirable in the FL area, but he found a way to pump out a production line that in his eyes, apparently will give him success in the way of $$$$$. To me, this is not why cue maker's make cues, I believe they make cues because they love the game and take pride in their craftsmanship, the money just happens to follow.

Actually I think the cues NOT marked 1 of 1 will be worth more. They do seem rarer. :o

I own on of the 1 of 1 cues ....maybe i got one he made on a good day..cause it plays better than any cue i have ever hit with...I put an OB1 on the cue and I wont part with it....i have hit with some jam up cues. My buddy plays with a Bludsworth and although his blud hits the ball damn good and feel like your hitting the ball with a solid piece of steel. I still like the hit of my DP. If i had to get another cue it would be a bludsworth...his cues just hit so solid....but i guess i am going from one extreme to the other..the softer hit of the DP and the stiff hit of the bluds..

To be honest the stiffiest hitting cue i have ever hit with was Bernie Kirbby's old Palmer damn that thing played Jam up. I bet Bernie wish he had that cue back..
