David Hodge's Quick Clean Pool Table Cleaner - Does it work???

Well? Does it?

I've found even vacuuming my felt doesn't remove all the chalk. I have red felt with red chalk...and I'm tired of everyone's bridge hand looking like it just came out of a.... I'm not going to go there.

It's good stuff...he had a booth at DCC with a table setup in the room that people would test cues on and bang balls around on...it got quite chalked up and he would go over and clean it periodically and it does get it off and out of the cloth...

Works for me. I don't know that it'll get all the red out but it'll help.

Works well for me, too. I've been using this since shortly after Dave put it on the commercial market. I use it on my own table (9' Murrey w/860 Simonis) with the occasional cleaning. I also clean the 2 8' Valley barboxes at the American Legion here in Oak Harbor on a weekly basis.

I get the best results by vacuuming first, then applying the Quick-Clean afterwards. The best advice I can give on the cleaner is to get it up off the table while it is STILL WET!!! If you let it dry, then it just breaks down into table dust and settles all the stuff back down inside the fabric.

It works by first breaking the oils down into solids, then encapsulating all of these solids, including cue chalk and hand chalk dust, and, as the capsule expands, migrating to the surface of the fabric. This all happens in an extremely short time span -- like 3-5 seconds or so. It remains damp for about 45 seconds, so you have plenty of time to get it off of the table.

I have found that you have to rub the rails a little to get them clean, but the simple wipe-off is "aces" on the table bed. I suggest that, to make this work best and easiest if you plan to use this a lot in the future, get the "Micro-Fiber Wiper," too. It costs about $30 -- you may be able to find an adequate and cheaper substitute in one of the "depot" stores or Walmart. It's kind of a squeegee-looking thing -- here's a picture of it from Dave's site:

With this thing, I can apply the cleaner to a 9' table and have it up and ready-to-play in about 30 seconds (you do NOT have to wait for this to dry in order to play!)! I have found (because I am right-handed, if this makes any sense) that, after application of the cleaner, the wiper works BEST if I start at the LEFT FOOT of the table and wipe TO THE HEAD and then BACK to the foot. Then do the same with the center of the squeegee at the center of the foot-rail, foot>head>foot -- and then, the same thing one more time on the right side of the table.

I do this because, for some reason, if the cloth has a knap, I like to lay it in the direction toward the foot of the table. I believe this idea was in the old instructions for how to properly brush down a table. DO NOT PRESS DOWN upon the Wiper -- just drag it along the surface of the cloth under its own weight. The same applies if you are just using a simple cloth to remove the cleaner from the table.

When this wiper gets full of gunk, all you have to do is give it a REAL GOOD rinsing with lukewarm water and hang it out to dry. It takes a LONG time to dry (like, OVERNIGHT) and also needed a little help from my hair dryer to speed it along a little.

The Quick-Clean DOES brace/refurbish the fabric to some degree with each application, just as Dave claims, and makes it look almost new -- and, as Dave also claims, my own experience has consistently been that it extends the life of the cloth far more than the cost of the cleaner.

If you get any "burn" marks in your cloth, get a silk or nylon cloth, spray some cleaner on it and rub the marked areas BEFORE you apply the cleaner to the whole table. This leaches some of the cloth color from the neighboring areas into the marks and they "disappear" as the color becomes uniform.

DO NOT FALL FOR the claims of Dave's rip-off competitor, Chalk-Off. Dave's product is original, patented and FAR SUPERIOR to the other product. Quick-Clean IS NOT A KNOCK-OFF of some other fabric cleaner that you can find cheaper in some other package at Walmart or Autozone. Unlike any of the other fabric cleaners or Chalk-Off, Quick-Clean PROTECTS the fabric and does not damage it in any way.

Dave's formula is PROPRIETARY, developed through over 5 years of personal formulation and testing. He has continued to make minor improvements in this product since it first went to market. This is why he stands by and guarantees his cleaner.

The only other thing I can say is that a single can is pretty expensive (2 cans for $24.95 + shipping). If you KNOW you are going to use this constantly over a long period of time, the smart way is to buy the CASE of 12 cans. I ordered a case about a month ago and it cost me about $85 SHIPPED.

This breaks down to slightly over $7 per can. I get at least 14, and usually 16, applications per can, but this is mixed between my 9' table and the 8' barboxes at the Legion. So, let's say you only do 9' tables and get only 12 applications per can -- this comes out to just under $0.60 per application.

Even at a very conservative estimation of applications per can, you can see that this is DAMN CHEAP!!!

So, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR???

BTW, I think the best way is to deal with Dave DIRECTLY on the phone rather than through his website, regardless of the size of your order. He is easy to get ahold of and is fun to talk to -- he will go out of his way to see that you are satisfied.

We use Quick-Clean at many Viking Tour events. It ABSOLUTELY works great !

Our tournament players really appreciate it when we clean the tables between matches. I highly recommend Quick-Clean.

Well I have used Quick Clean, and I did buy the 2 cans with the microfiber squeegee looking thing.

This is what I can say about it!

It works great, if you vaccum the table first, and then you apply it as directed.

The reason it extends the cloth life is because it is removing the dirt and oils from the cloth. (Any cleaner that does this will extend the cloth life. Even warm water will do this!)

I found a forum talking about cheaper products that would work the same way, and being an auto detailer for several year I thought I might find something just as good.

I found at the Auto store Blue Coral Upholstery Cleaner. It cost about 1/2 the price and you get more per can than Dave's system. (About $3 - $4 a can, and 22.8oz of product. I believe quick clean is 16 - 18 oz of product.)

I took the brush off the can and threw it away. (You don't want that thing touching your cloth!)

Then I use it just like the quick clean. Spray it on wait a couple of seconds (30 - 40) and wipe it off with the microfiber cloth. (And yes you can find the same type of cloth at Wal-mart. Or you can just use a wash cloth too. Or if you want the microfiber cloth from Dave, it is on Seybert's)

If you read the directions of the Blue Coral it says to vacuum the upholstery and then spray it on. (Funny since that is the same thing I was doing with the Quick Clean.)

In my opinion it works better than the quick clean on getting the stuff out of the cloth, and it cost 1/2 the price. And any evidence of jumping or masse is absolutely removed from the cloth. So in my opinion it works a lot better. It is made for wool, nylon, and synthetics. (Simonis cloth is wool, so makes since that it would work.)

Any time you clean your felt, you will extend the life of the felt. Even people I know that only use warm water and a wash cloth have their felt last longer than just vacuuming alone.

Oh, and the blue coral smells a lot better than the Quick Clean too!

Anyway, that is my 2 cents.

Works Great!

I just got my table about 2 weeks ago and have used it a couple of times and works great. Definately worth the couple bucks.
