DCC 9ball Break Rules

I see the race in 9 ball is now 9 instead of 7. Does anyone know if they are allowing jump cues?

I was just reading the rules for the 9ball event, and I found something a bit strange that I never noticed before.

Has this always been the rule? If so, has anyone ever given up the break on the next game?

I don't see a point to it, but I don't want to make assumptions.

You can ALWAYS pass the break, although I don't know if the rule is that the other player HAS to take the break or can say "no thanks". I know at least one major event where a player let the opponent break. There is an accustats thing that showed the breaker won 47% of the games or something. Don't know exactly what showed that, if it was one tournament, several of them, in what era (pre sardo/magic rack for example would have different break and run stats).

Thanks.

Still not sure what the point of the rule is.

Also, I believe there is a rule that if your opponent breaks and runs the set, you get the chance to do the same... awesome!

Yes those rules were in place last year too. I don't know how far back before that they were used.
