DCC - AZB Room Monitoring

Okay, ladies and gentlemen, we have a room. Monitoring will need to be around the clock. We have divided the day into 4 blocks of 6 hours. Randi Mathews will be monitoring from noon to 6 PM each day; and Mike M. (Semperfi) will have the key at his vendor's booth from 6 PM til MN each day (where anyone on the list of contributors may check out the key, and return the key when they leave the room - we may ask you to leave your tournament badge as a "deposit" for return of the key). We need volunteers for the other 15 shifts; starting Friday MN.

Just let me know which shift you want and I'll add it to this post. If we don't have enough monitors, then the last guy out of the room will have to slide the key under my door ( I'll only be there Friday evening, then be back Wednesday through Saturday). If no monitors volunteer, the room may be closed for significant periods of time (no real crime, I guess). If someone gets stuck with the key and the room is empty, they'll just have to bring it back at noon for Randi.

Friday (1-6) 6PM - MN = Williebetmore
Saturday (1-7) MN - 6 AM =
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx 6AM - noon = IronDon55
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx noon - 6PM = Randi Mathews

Monday (1-9) MN - 6AM = DWS (thekirkwoodki)

Tuesday (1-10) MN - 6AM =
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 6AM - noon =

Wednesday (1-11)MN - 6AM =
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx 6AM - noon =

xxxxxxxxxxxxxx 6PM - MN = Semperfi
Thursday (1-12) MN - 6AM =
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx 6AM - noon =
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx noon - 6PM = Randi Mathews

Friday (1-13) MN - 6AM = Williebetmore
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx 6AM - noon =

xxxxxxxxxxxxxx 6PM - MN = Semperfi
Saturday (1-14) MN - 6AM =
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx 6AM - noon =
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx noon til close Sunday AM = Semperfi (we'll let him do whatever he wants with the key on Saturday, and close the room for good whenever he wants).

P.S. - sorry for all the x's, but this site doesn't allow any spaces/indentation.

If I was going I would would be happy to pull a shift, I would love to go to the DCC, but I will not make it. Too far to drive. :(

IronDon55,
Many thanks. One free brewski on me for being the first volunteer. See you at DCC.

In another vein, I would like to make sure that the monitors will go out of there way to try to make any pro's dropping in feel welcome. I'm going to try to have some refreshments there (no telling how long they'll last though), I hope monitor's will offer some to the pro's (just soda though, couldn't get around the age verification requirements to distribute alcohol).

PLEASE TAKE NOTE - "Stay away from my door"!

Anyone attempting to slide anything under my door is taking a chance on getting shot. AND I'M NOT KIDDING.

No one but my wife and secretary will even know my room number.
Only pre-authorized calls will get through to my room.

OHB,
I've edited the post. I wouldn't want anyone's lead poisoning on my conscience.

How about we have some extra copies of the list of people that can have the room key along with some envelopes. If the room does need to be shut down, the envelope can be turned into the front desk with the list of acceptable key holders attached to the outside of the envelope so that the front desk clerk can verify if it's ok to give the key out or not. I've met up with friends out of town numerous times and they've left tickets and keys and all kinds of things in an envelope at the front desk for me. I don't think it should be a problem with the hotel and we shouldn't have to do it often I wouldn't think. Just a idea to throw out as a back-up plan.

I have been at more pool tournaments than most. I also have stayed at more hotels/motels than most over the last 40 years. I have seen and experienced the horror stories of an Open Door Policy.
For 9 days, this hotel room is my home and I treat it as such.
The first thing I do when checking in is to get with the manager of the housekeeping staff. they know what & when I need and expect.
And No, Jimmy M. they don't slip anything under my door.

OHB, I can't say that I blame you. I've heard some horror stories of the DCC inparticular where people have been mugged. I've already been given my warning not to go anywhere alone and esp don't leave the bldg alone at night. The DCC isn't the only place this happens, it just seems that you hear about it more because of it being so big and lasting so long. There's a TON of money with all the people showing up for after hours activities. My motto is not to trust anyone unless you already know them. ;)

I could do a couple of 9AM to Noon slots starting Wed. I willl be busy with preparations fo Tuesday night's One Pocket Hall of Fame event earlier in the week. I cannot quite bring myself to commit to anything 6AM to 9AM, however :)

Would the room key be held at the front desk by whoever does the early AM closing for me to pick up at 9AM? In years past, even the main tourney room closes around 8AM for an hour or two of clean-up every day. It is definitely the quietest time for the pool tables.

Dcc Cc Tv

I was wondering, if it might be possible to have a CC TV in the AZ/1P room. That way during lulls, at least the monitors will be able to watch what is going on, on the TV table.

Tracy,
Good idea. I'll ask about that and the internet access question if I ever succeed in talking to a human at the Executive West. Just about 20 answering machines so far.

Williebetmore -
If & when you get through to someone - I'm wondering if they will have the housekeeping staff coming in to clean the room?

Are you dealing with the 'Catering Dept' at the West? I found them real helpful last year, and again this year -- for our Hall of Fame dinner -- although this year we are acrosss the street at the Inn for the dinner. I have some direct numbers for the West's catering dept if you need them.

Do you know the specific name of the room we are in for AZ/1P.org?

Getting officially antsy....

OHB,
I'll put it on my long list of things to ask.

I could be wrong but from the mostly vague stories i have heard, i have a feeling it is mostly self muggings. It's been so friggin cold every year when you do go outside, no one is out there.

Contrary to what i thought as a kid and what i see some people still think- Louisville IS NOT IN THE SOUTH! From what i can tell, it has to be north of Canada somewhere.
