This was my 1st time at DCC and if I feel good enough
I thought I might try Vf for the 1st time.
Which do you guys like best & why?
What are some differences?
I enjoyed seeing the top players. Watching non- tourney
matchups. Staying where everything was going on.
Drinking. Playing on same tables as pros.Getting to talk to pros.
Didn't enjoy limited seating
thanks.

I too have yet to attend DCC, I will next year. I can say that I have been to Valley Forge for the last 5 years and Allen, his wife and all the rest of the people involved put on a "Super" event. Hence the name Super Billiards Expo.
I would highly recommend attending this event, 35 days and counting until it kicks off.

I haven't been able to make it to the DCC tournament yet, but I have been to all of the Super Billiards Expo's and you will absolutely have a good time, there is truly something for everyone at Allen & Dawn's event: Pro's Tournaments, Amatuer's (Men & Women's) Tournaments, League's, Exhibitors, Junior's Tournaments, Action, Action, Action. You'll be glad you went.

Hondo,

I haven't had the chance to make it to the DCC, but I have attended VF for years. From the list of things that you stated you enjoyed from the DCC, the only differences that I can tell you about is:

1.) Good luck staying at the convention center hotels....those rooms are gone, unless you know someone who has a room, you booked it awhile ago, or you are an exhibitor. However, there are several hotels within a mile or so, but if you are going I suggest that you book now as it is to my understanding that most of them are booked up.

2.) As far as seating goes...I haven't attended the Pro events in VF for the past few years, so I am working on how it was years ago. They sell tickets...so if you don't have a ticket, you don't have a seat...thus the seating really isn't too bad if you are able to get in. You pretty much just crowd around the armature arenas to watch those matches and the same with the action tables. FYI- the action table during the day is located downstairs...you can't miss it.

You should definitely go, as you are kind of close anyway....I love Valley Forge. Oh yeah, two other points:

1.) If you are gonna play in any of the tourneys you should seriously register now. Your playing pass gets you into the expo all four days.

2.) If you are not gonna play but are an APA member, make sure you bring your APA card as you will score a discount off of the admittance fee.

I've never been to Derby City...There is probably more matching up there...At VF which I have been to a few times..For me it was always about great side action on the challenge table and taking advantage of the APA type players who don't have a clue who the lower level or lessor known pro's are...If you can handicap the field well and have some stones to Gamble at the right time you will have a blast...Every time I went down I paid for my trip and made a nice chunk of cabbage...$50 on the racker :D

Check it out if you can...The Action is like straight out of a movie..

Dawn Hopkins has been very helpfull when we have called and very patient when we have asked her a ton of questions. I can see why everyone wants to go. I will be going for the first time and have been assured by lots of cuemakers and players that this is the "place". Looking forward to it.

LOL!!! Okay, Hondo. I've been to both VF and DCC many times. Tough to get a good picture of comparison from all the people who haven't gone to both.

The DCC is an OPEN event on 9' Diamond Smart Tables, with Greg Sullivan putting more effort in players playing rather than watching. The 9-ball mall is nice but small. As you know, side action matchups between world class and national class players happen 24/7 with very high bean counts, so the gambling culture is a big draw for people.

The VF SuperBilliards Expo is a public trade show with several AMATEUR events on 7' Diamond Smart Tables. Sometimes, they have a pro event (WPBA, mens or trick shot) to WATCH. The action is much lower cost at VF, with the best action happening at the challenge table (the Pit). It normally doesn't go for over $100/game challenge (though some high dollar action occassionaly happens, but not often), with plenty of side action betting reminiscent of the stock market trade (hence, the Pit). Half of the attraction is the number of vendor booths, the most for any non-tradeperson only show.

They are two different events, with two different raison d'etre. My suggestion is to go to both.

Thank you Kevin! I'll see you at the amatuer tournament desk!

Thanks, Fred, that's the kind of info I was looking for.
