Decided to do an experiment

I get all the Breaks
Silver Member
Everybody that knows me or, bothers to read my signature line knows that I'm a Predator user through and through. So to stay to form when the BK3 was announced my play was to get one as soon as I could afford it. Well I did some research and one of the things I learned is that the BK3 comes standard weighting in at 18ozs. Well I decided to take the weight bolt out of my BK2 and see if I'd get any improvement in my break.

Well honestly I was very skeptical to say the least going lighter, my BK2 with the bolt in weighs 19ozs., with the bolt out 18ozs. Well the results were amazing to me, I'm generating just as much or more power with the lighter cue, and also more control of the cue ball I'm generally leaving the cue ball in the middle of the table on 90% of my breaks where before it was 50 - 60% of the time planting in the middle of the table.

This new control is expanding my game as it's given me even more options after the break in both 8 ball and 9 ball.

So for what it's worth if your in the market for the BK3 get it. If you already have a BK2 take out the weight bolt and give it a whack!

Thank you for the suggestion, I'm Happy!

Black Cat,

I wanted to thank you for the suggestion of removing the weight bolt from my
BK-2.

I unscrewed the threaded Predator bumper and unscrewed the weight bolt in
just seconds and was impressed with how simple it was to do.

I have owned my BK-2 for over two years and never knew how beneficial it would
be to make my cue an ounce lighter until I read your thread yesterday. I have
already broke 20 + racks of 9-Ball on my home table and am noticing I have
a faster delivery and better control.

Thanks Black Cat!

The best part of lightening your break cue is the added control. You don't have to swing as hard allowing you to focus more on control. Just for fun try this: instead of giving your break stroke 100% back it off a little and I bet you see even better results.

You certainly do have to swing harder to get same power, assuming you hit the one square in both instances. Even i know that much physics.
