It seems to 'Defy' logic.Surely, the shaft would feel smoother, without the bumpy sludge over the entire length of the thing.
I can play with a shaft that hits like shit, but this thing goes even further then that. It is completely unusable.
$500, for a shaft that is unusable? What were they thinking? No pool players at McDermott, who test their products?
I just do not get it.
I believe this but consider, Big Mac is still afloat.Surely, the shaft would feel smoother, without the bumpy sludge over the entire length of the thing.

COINCIDENCE?
I think not.
On a brighter note I just measured one of my Luckys to see if there is a full 29" of cue without the rubber.
There is. Woot!...
Have you tried Turtle Wax Ice? It's 20 bucks a bottle but you only need a drop (unshaken - which might be just silicone) on a paper towel to slick up a cue shaft. Don't use it on the handle side. Way too slippery.
I sympathize regardless...

Why don't you give them a call?I just received this pool cue, and it had a Mcdermott Defy shaft with it.
I figured that with a Glove, it would be usable, but lol, no, not even with a glove is this thing usable.
What in the world were they thinking, when they put on this sludge (black stuff), over the original CF(?), which I know is super smooth, in its raw form, I believe.
Anyways, like I said, even with a glove, the thing is not smooth in the least bit. I do not know how anyone is able to play with these shafts.
With that being said, I wonder if I could just have a local cue maker sand off all of that black sludge (lol, just going to call it sludge, because I have no idea what it is).
By the way, I did do my research on the shaft, and I believe what I have is the 2nd Gen Defy. It has Grey ringwork, and a Grey ferrule.
With some sort of very sticky black sludge going over the entire shaft. Very bumpy sludge too, lol. Bumpy, as in not the least bit smooth.
By the way, I had a Whyte Carbon shaft (Black version) about a year ago, and that thing had some sort of a black finish over the CF, and it too was very sticky, but only without a glove. With a Glove, it was super smooth, and I really loved it. I just hated using a Glove. That was my issue.
Anyways, I just can't believe that the experts at Mcdermott thought that any player would enjoy playing with this CF shaft, with whatever that Black sludge that they put over the CF is. The thing is unplayable. Well, I guess you could play with it. But, I can't imagine that any player would enjoy playing with the thing.
Anyways, I am just really bummed out, because I was hoping that at least with a glove, the thing would feel smooth, but no, I was wrong. It is just as horrible with a glove, as it feels without a glove. That is just my opinion though.
If you are thinking about buying a Defy, then I would be careful not to get this one, with the Grey ferrule.
Look for the one that Seyberts currently sells. It has a White ferrule. I read that one (the 3rd generation Defy) is smooth, and they fixed the issue with the sludge, lol. Hopefully it is just a Raw Carbon shaft, with no type of sludge added, lol.
I say that, because I see that some website dealers are still selling the 2nd gen shaft, with the Grey ferrule.
Thanks for reading.

Hi, seriously, I would be willing to spend that $20, if it will make this shaft usable. You really think it would?
Even if it were slick though, the sludge seems bumpy. Imagine an old used house cue. It woukd be like using one of those, if smooth.
I really just want to be
I am about ready to just buy a cheap Rhino.
Thank
