Hello,
Thanks for this great forum, it is a wonderful tool. I would like to know if anyone has an idea or way of setting something up on the lathe to cut points into a 4 inch peice for the butt sleeve other than severly offsetting the tailstock? I find that the offset method gets a little loose as the peice is indexed. Maybe a short taper bar setup? Any suggestions would be appreciated before I spend to much time on failed ideas. Thank you.

Get a piece of 1" to 1.5" straight steel about 6 inches long and c clamp it to your existing taper bar at a much more sever angle than your regular taper bar will give. Once you work out the angle you want it on there, scribe a line across it so you will know how to clamp it on next time. You could also do this with a 12" piece for cutting your forearm points with taper bar. This would all be a breeze it you have the removable shaft taper bar option.
